	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/11/2018 answer text <p>The most recent official data on average length of family-related leave taken by parents is from the Maternity and Paternity Rights Survey in 2009, which collected data from parents of children born in 2008 across Great Britain.</p><p>This shows that in 2008,</p><ul><li>mothers took an average of 39 weeks of maternity leave, up from 32 weeks in 2006.</li><li>amongst fathers who took some paternity leave, 16% took more than two weeks, 50% took two weeks and 34% took less than two weeks of leave.</li></ul><p>This does not contain information on average weeks of unpaid Parental Leave, nor of Shared Parental Leave which was introduced in 2015.</p><p>Information on the amount of leave taken at the regional or local level is not available.</p><p>The full Maternity and Paternity Rights Survey 2009/10 Research Report can be found here:</p><p>https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/214367/rrep777.pdf</p><p>We are currently evaluating the Shared Parental Leave and Pay schemes. The most recent data on the length of maternity leave taken by all mothers is from the Maternity and Paternity Rights Survey in 2009, which collected data from parents of children born in 2008 across Great Britain.</p><p>This shows that in 2008, 23% of all employed mothers took 52 weeks of Statutory Maternity Leave or more (e.g. by taking annual leave in addition).</p><p>We are currently undertaking a new survey of parents which will provide updated information on family-related leave and pay entitlements, including the length of Maternity Leave taken by mothers in general. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/01/2019 answer text <p>Employed fathers have a number of workplace employment rights which can be used to help care for their children or to support the other parent, subject to meeting qualifying conditions. These include Paternity Leave and Pay, Shared Parental Leave and Pay, Unpaid Parental Leave and time off for dependants. Where a child is born prematurely, fathers have the flexibility to take Paternity Leave and Pay within 8 weeks of the expected date of birth rather than within 8 weeks of the actual birth.</p><p>The Government is sympathetic towards the traumatic experiences of parents whose babies have been admitted to neonatal care units. The group strengthens cooperation and coordination between Government, business and other groups with an interest in tackling loneliness. It last met on 23rd July, and will meet again on 7th November. The intention is to publish examples of good practice by the end of the year. The Government is determined to ensure employers are fully equipped to support those who are experiencing long term health conditions. We consulted for employees with long term health conditions last year on a range of measures to encourage early and supportive action by employers and on how to boost the support that Government provides. We will publish our response to that consultation in due course.</p><p> </p><p>Flexible working can be key in helping people to manage long term health conditions and work.
