star this property answer text <p>My officials have not discussed the Confederation of British Industry’s (CBI) education and skills annual report with the CBI. We are aware of the need to deliver a national policy that is effective and delivers the cultural change in adult skills that is needed. That is why the National Retraining Scheme is being driven by a key partnership between the CBI, Trade Union Congress and government who are working together to develop a national policy that will genuinely make a difference.</p><p>We have also recently published findings from our Employer Skills Survey, which interviewed over 87,000 employers about their skills needs and challenges: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employer-skills-survey-2017-uk-report" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/employer-skills-survey-2017-uk-report</a>. The survey findings will inform various Department for Education policies including the science, technology, engineering and mathematics strategy.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The government is committed to delivering 3 million apprenticeship starts by 2020. Apprenticeship reforms continue to improve the quality of apprenticeships for all, providing the skills that employers need. Our reforms include implementation of the Apprenticeship Levy and new funding system to encourage employers to offer more high quality apprenticeships opportunities to people of all ages.</p><p> </p><p>There were 509,400 apprenticeship starts in the 2015/16 academic year of which 285,300 were by people under 25. Our ‘Get In Go Far’ campaign aims to encourage more young people to apply and more employers to offer opportunities.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity for individuals wishing to combine paid work with on and off the job training, and should play a key role for people entering professions – including teaching. A group of schools, led by Sir Andrew Carter, is therefore developing a postgraduate teacher apprenticeship, which will offer trainees high-quality, employment-based training and support schools to recoup their apprenticeship levy payments.
