<p>Whilst the Home Office does not provide specific support to gain employment, asylum
seekers are permitted to work, in jobs on the Shortage Occupation List, if they have
been waiting for a decision on their claim for 12 months or more and the delay is
through no fault of their own.</p><p>Those granted refugee status or humanitarian
protection have immediate and unrestricted access to the labour market and benefits.
Unemployed refugees are entitled to receive employment support from the Department
for Work and Pensions.</p>
