star this property answer text <p>The Department and NHS England are committed to transforming cancer services across the country, taking an all cancer approach to improvement. The National Health Service Cancer Programme has established a number of initiatives to support the delivery of this ambition including. This includes Wave 2 of the Accelerate, Coordination and Evaluation programme testing a new approach to diagnosing patients with vague symptoms, often characteristic of hard to diagnose cancers like haematological cancers. In addition, since July 2016 the Cancer Drugs Fund has either funded or is currently funding 39 treatments for blood cancers, including six for myeloma.</p> more like this

FAEs are counted against the year or month in which the admission episode finishes. Admissions do not represent the number of patients, as a person may have more than one admission within the period. The primary diagnosis refers to the main reason why the patient was admitted to hospital.</p><p> </p><p>The number of FAEs in secondary care with a primary diagnosis for atrial fibrillation only in 2016/17 is 34,517. Atrial fibrillation-only FAE data (i.e. not including atrial flutter FAE data as well) is not available prior to 2016/17 as this information was not separately recorded by NHS Digital prior to that year.</p>

star this property answer text <p>As part of our Childhood Obesity Plan we have seen some good progress on sugar reduction.</p><p> </p><p>Public Health England’s (PHE) sugar reduction programme challenges industry to reduce sugar by 20% by 2020 in foods that our children consume the most. PHE’s recent report, ‘Sugar reduction and wider reformulation programme: Report on progress towards the first 5% reduction and next steps’, shows some good progress. For example, yoghurts have exceeded the first year target and achieved a 6% reduction in sugar.</p><p> </p><p>The soft drinks industry levy has seen half of the products that were initially in scope reformulated – that’s equivalent of removing 45 million kilograms of sugar every year.</p><p> </p><p>We are confident industry will continue to reformulate their products and further progress will be made.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>There is no record held which indicates the last occasion prior to January 2018 when a Minister sought additional specific assurance from officials on the accuracy and robustness of delivery of the breast screening programme. However, we can confirm that there are processes in place where assurance is given to Ministers on a regular basis on the work of NHS England and Public Health England in delivering effective screening programmes.</p><p> </p><p>All available information will be shared with the independent review who will investigate why quality assurance processes did not pick up the problem earlier, whether any warnings should have been heeded earlier and whether the issue was escalated to Ministers at the appropriate time.
