The comparable nature of the data facilitates the following uses: for national and local policy makers to design, implement and monitor policies on oral health and dental services; for dental commissioners in NHS England to ensure commissioned services are meeting the needs of the population; for local authorities to fulfil a statutory function to assess the oral health needs of their populations - to inform the adult oral health elements of their joint strategic needs assessments and their local adult oral health improvement plans.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>All National Health Service dental practices are required to display a poster showing patient charges and to offer patients a free leaflet which sets out in detail who is entitled to free NHS dental services. Information on exemptions and support for people who are on a low income can also be found at the following link:</p><p> </p><p><a href="http://www.nhs.uk/healthcosts" target="_blank">www.nhs.uk/healthcosts</a></p><p> </p><p>Eligibility checks are carried out on claims received for exemption from NHS Dental Patient Charges. Where eligibility cannot be verified, patients are asked to confirm their eligibility or to pay the relevant dental charge plus a penalty charge. Patients are, however, able to challenge penalty charges they believe are unjustified.</p><p> </p><p>The Department, NHS Business Services Authority and NHS England have recognised the concern that some patients may not be clear on whether they are exempt from charges and has been working to further improve the information available to patients around eligibility. This includes promoting an easy read patient information booklet, creating an online eligibility checker and developing a national awareness campaign.</p>

star this property answer text <p>On 14 November 2018, it was announced that flash glucose monitors will be available on prescription for every patient who qualifies for them, in line with National Health Service clinical guidelines.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has not made any representations to Abbott since.</p><p> </p><p>Clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) are responsible for commissioning diabetes services. In doing so, CCGs need to ensure that the services they provide are fit for purpose, reflect the needs of the local population, are based on the available evidence, and take into account national guidelines. This should include consideration of access to diabetes technologies such as FreeStyle Libre.</p> more like this
