	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/07/2017 answer text <p>Whether a person has “internet access” can be measured in different ways, for example whether their household has a fixed broadband connection, or whether they own a smartphone. However, I am not aware of any estimates of the proportion of people who have internet access by age group in each parliamentary constituency.</p><p>Ofcom’s “Adults' media use and attitudes” reports also set out estimates of different types of “internet access”, including by age, and geographical location, but not at constituency level.</p><p> </p><p>Fixed broadband infrastructure is almost universally available across the UK, and we are bringing in a Universal Service Obligation to ensure everyone in the UK has the right to request an affordable connection to broadband of a minimum specified speed, from a designated provider, no matter where they live or work, up to a reasonable cost threshold.</p> answering member constituency West Suffolk answering member printed Matt Hancock question first answered 11/07/2017 12:03:10 answering member 4070 label Biography information for Matt Hancock

This is why £1.7 billion of public money is being invested to support improvements in superfast broadband services across the UK. Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) is committed to bringing superfast broadband access to 95 per cent of UK premises by the end of the year. By 2020, this should reach 97 per cent through a combination of public and commercial investment. To ensure that no one is left behind, the Government is also introducing a new broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO) within this Parliament. We work closely with the charity sector to understand and meet the challenges of a rapidly changing digital landscape.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The government recognises its duty to provide for all, and if people cannot use or access the Internet, it will not be a barrier to them accessing government services.
