As a result of the commercial and government investments, the number of premises with a broadband service below 2Mbps continues to reduce. Under the auspices of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS), Government meets key partners on a quarterly basis to drive and oversee progress.</p><p> </p><p>In the Autumn, Ofcom will report on progress made by BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin to roll-out family friendly filters. These four ISPs provide internet services to around 90% of the UK's fixed-line customers. Ofcom has already delivered three reports on progress in this area, and will be delivering a final report later this year. Whilst we await Ofcom's findings, we understand from the ISPs that collectively, over 95% of customers have now made an active choice on filters, or had filters applied to their accounts.</p><p> </p><p>We estimate that around 90% of public wifi is provided by six providers, all of whom apply filters which block adult content and illegal child sexual abuse material by default in areas that children are likely to be unsupervised by a parent. That is why security will be a theme throughout the government funded Internet of Things programme (IoTUK). We have included £10m for additional research to design in security, privacy and trust in IoT-related systems. In his report on the Internet of Things the Government Chief Scientist advised that security should be considered at the beginning and throughout the life cycle of Internet of Things applications. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/04/2016 answer text <p>Internet Service Providers are accountable to Ofcom - and in turn to their customers - through Ofcom's 'General Conditions (14)'. These conditions include ensuring that an effective complaint handling procedure is in place, and Ofcom can impose a penalty of up to 10% of turnover for failure to comply.</p><p>Ofcom, as the UK’s independent communications regulator, has a duty to secure alternative dispute resolution (ADR) schemes for domestic and small business customers to make sure their rights are upheld. This is why £1.7 billion of public money is being invested to support improvements in superfast broadband services across the UK. Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) is committed to bringing superfast broadband access to 95 per cent of UK premises by the end of the year. By 2020, this should reach 97 per cent through a combination of public and commercial investment. To ensure that no one is left behind, the Government is also introducing a new broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO) within this Parliament.
