The Impact Assessment supporting this change reflects that the removal of the scheme will not precipitate illegal discrimination by employers against employees with poor sickness records. If employees should suffer such discrimination then there are legal protections in place.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Department made a number of changes to health and disability benefits to safeguard the health of claimants and staff and to prioritise new claims and continuity of awards. All assessments are currently being progressed on the basis of the paper based evidence alone or that evidence together with a telephone assessment to ensure decisions on PIP can be made without delay.</p><p> </p><p>The health and safety of our claimants and our staff are our key priority. Face to face assessments for health and disability benefits remain suspended at present; this is being kept under review in line with the latest public health guidance. Any re-introduction of face to face assessments would involve additional safety measures to comply with public health guidance.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Individuals should tell their employer that symptoms of coronavirus (Covid-19) persist and that they must continue to self-isolate.</p><p> </p><p>Individuals will be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) if they have tested positive for coronavirus and are staying at home and self-isolating for 10 days, or until they no longer have symptoms, and they are not able to work as a result. Individuals should continue to self-isolate beyond 10 days if they still have symptoms other than a cough or loss of sense of smell or taste. SSP remains available to individuals who are unable to work because of sickness resulting from Covid-19 or otherwise. Other SSP eligibility criteria will apply<em>.</em></p><p> </p><p>Where an individual’s income is reduced while off work sick and they require further financial support, for example where they are not eligible for SSP, they may be able to claim Universal Credit and new style Employment and Support Allowance, depending on their individual circumstances.</p>

star this property answer text <p /> <p>Information on mandatory reconsiderations of benefit decisions was released on 17<sup>th</sup> December 2014. This was an ad-hoc release of experimental statistics on MR requests made between 28<sup>th</sup>October 2013 and 31<sup>st</sup> October 2014. It gives an overview of mandatory reconsideration requests across all benefits recorded on DWP’s operational systems, and a focused summary on Employment and Support Allowance (ESA). This data can be found here:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/mandatory-reconsiderations-of-dwp-benefit-decisions-data-to-october-2014" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/mandatory-reconsiderations-of-dwp-benefit-decisions-data-to-october-2014</a></p><p> </p><p>DWP statisticians are looking to include statistics for the entire ESA Work Capability Assessment (WCA) process into the existing regular statistical publication, including information on Mandatory Reconsiderations outcomes. However before DWP is able to do this statisticians need to make sure that the data is accurate and fit for purpose and develop a robust methodology. star this property answer text <p>The savings from the abolition of the Percentage Threshold Scheme (PTS) of £52M 2014/15 were reinvested to set up Fit for Work and provide a tax exemption of up to £500 per year per employee for medical treatments recommended by Fit for Work or an employer arranged occupational health service.
