	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/05/2019 answer text <p>To stimulate research proposals, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) has issued two calls for research into cannabis-based products for medicinal use and has taken steps to advertise the call to all manufacturers interested in supplying the United Kingdom market.</p><p>The NIHR also remain open to the submission of proposals outside of these specific calls. Additionally, the NHS Business Services Authority data report that 10 private prescriptions were dispensed for unlicensed cannabis-based products for medicinal use in January and February 2019.</p><p> </p><p>Unlike NHS primary care where all dispensed prescriptions are processed centrally, this is not the case for secondary care. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2019 answer text <p>The law was changed on 1 November 2018 to allow clinicians on the General Medical Council’s ‘Specialist Register’ to prescribe cannabis-based products for medicinal use, where clinically appropriate and in the best interest of patients.</p><p>Interim clinical guidance has been issued by the Royal College of Physicians, the British Paediatric Neurology Association and the Association of British Neurologists to support doctors looking to prescribe cannabis-based products. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has been commissioned to develop updated clinical guidance on the prescribing of cannabis-based medicinal products, which will be published by October 2019. There has not been a meeting between the Secretary of State and the Home Secretary on the potential effect of legalising cannabis-oil medicines on the availability of cannabis as a gateway drug for social use.</p><p> </p><p>An impact assessment is being prepared alongside proposals to consider wider impacts of this policy. There are known harms associated with cannabis use and cannabis remains a controlled drug. The Government has no plans to legalise it for recreational use.
