These data are retrospective and do not represent current hospitalisations. star this property answer text <p>The Government has announced that the UK will donate at least 100 million surplus COVID-19 vaccine doses within the next year, including 5 million by the end of September and a further 25 million by the end of 2021.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has committed that 80% of our surplus vaccines will go to COVAX, the multilateral facility responsible for distributing COVID-19 vaccines to ensure equitable global access. The remainder will be shared bilaterally with countries in need. The Government will set out more detail in due course.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>A five-week consultation was launched on 14 April to inform decision-making to make vaccination a condition of staff deployment in older adult care home providers. We have also introduced a minimum four-visit schedule to ensure as many care home staff and residents can be vaccinated on-site as possible. For those workers who may not have been present when the vaccination team visited the specific care home, access via other vaccination services has been available. star this property answer text <p>The Department has established an extensive communications programme to target public health messages and tackle vaccine misinformation to improve the take-up of the COVID-19 vaccine among carers. This includes bespoke communications materials shared on the CARE Workforce App; a weekly newsletter and via social media channels; a paid advertising campaign targeting social care workers with digital advertising to build vaccine confidence and encourage booking vaccine appointments; a stakeholder toolkit with resources for distribution by care providers and representative bodies; and positive messaging using influencers, health experts, faith leaders and social care workers who have already been vaccinated to boost confidence and tackle misinformation. We have also held briefings with faith groups, charities and care providers who have expressed interest in co-creating vaccine content and acting as ambassadors.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>For phase two of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation’s interim advice set out that the most effective way to minimise hospitalisations and deaths is to continue to prioritise people by age, rather than by occupation. Age is assessed to be the strongest factor linked to mortality, morbidity and hospitalisations.</p><p>If guides and drivers for pupils at special schools are captured in phase one or two due to age or clinical need, then they will be vaccinated accordingly.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK is taking a strong global leadership role in collaborating with other countries in the development and distribution of a successful vaccine and we are encouraging other high-income countries to do the same. The UK is one of the largest bilateral donors to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC), which will give lower and middle-income countries equitable access to vaccines that are developed. The UK has committed £548 million to the COVAX AMC.</p><p> </p><p>Pricing of COVID-19 vaccines between pharmaceutical companies and other countries is a matter for those parties involved.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Those administering the vaccines are either existing healthcare staff or those recruited specifically for the programme– including those who signed up to the NHS Bring Back scheme.   There are a number of roles within the vaccination programme and these will require different levels of qualifications and experience.</p><p> </p><p>The Department recently changed legislation to allow a wider group of people to administer vaccines, including more health care professionals as well as others who have passed a programme of training developed by Public Health England and Health Education England. New vaccinators will be assessed in person and closely supervised to ensure their and patients’ safety.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) consists of independent experts who advise the Government on which vaccine/s the United Kingdom should use and provide advice on prioritisation at a population level. The JCVI has advised that the vaccine should be given to care home residents and staff, followed by people over 80 years old and health and social care workers.</p><p>We recognise the vital role unpaid carers play in caring for vulnerable individuals. The JCVI recommends that carers who are in receipt of Carer’s Allowance or are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if the carer contracted COVID-19, should be included in Priority group 6 alongside people with underlying health conditions.</p> more like this
