These figures present a picture of the workforce as at the 31 March and as at 30 September each year. These data are published in the ‘Police workforce, England and Wales’ statistical publication, which can be accessed here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/police-workforce-england-and-wales" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/police-workforce-england-and-wales</a></del></p><p><del class="ministerial">Data on the number of officers per 100,000 of the resident population, by police force area, are published on an annual basis. The latest available data on the number of police officers per 100,000 of the population can be found in Table_H4 of the data tables accompanying the main release, the latest of which can be accessed here:</del><br /><del class="ministerial"><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-workforce-england-and-wales-31-march-2018" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-workforce-england-and-wales-31-march-2018</a></del></p><p><del class="ministerial">Data on the number of police officers are collected at Police Force Area level only, and cannot be broken at local authority level.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The Home Office does not hold information on response times of the police.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">In his Budget, the Chancellor committed to providing funding for the police in 2019/20 to cover additional pensions costs beyond the £165m which was expected at Budget 2016. </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The pensions grant announced at the settlement covers the additional pension costs above £165m for the police officer scheme, and the additional pension costs above £11m for police staff. This reflects revised costings following technical changes to how the actuarial estimate of the increase in costs for officers is assessed. Total expected cost pressures arising from the valuations are now £302m for the police officer scheme and £27m for police staff.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government is enabling an overall increase in funding of up to £970m in police funding including precept and national priorities. With Home Office support, they reached an agreement with the Administrators to ensure that the business continues to operate so that evidence KFS holds continues to be properly and professionally managed in accordance with the standards set by the Forensic Science Regulator.There are no plans to reopen the Forensic Science Service.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government has not undertaken an assessment of the effect of rural crime on residents and businesses in Barnsley East. The independent Crime Survey for England and Wales continues to show that, for those crimes covered by the Survey, people in rural areas are less likely to be the victims of crime than those in urban areas. This takes place through a wide range of fora and engagements including the Police Reform and Transformation Board and the digital roundtables convened by the Minister of Policing and Fire in January and June 2018 to support transformation in the digital space.</p><p>In May, The Minister for Policing &amp; the Fire Service wrote to police leaders setting out our commitment to work with the police ahead of the Spending Review. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/11/2018 answer text <p>As we made clear in our Modern Crime Prevention Strategy, there are many factors that drive crime, and so preventing crime is the responsibility of many institutions, not just the police.</p><p>This Government has provided a strong and comprehensive settlement that is increasing total investment in the police system by over £460m in 2018-19, of which more than £280m from increased council tax precept will go direct to forces to spend locally. It is for operationally independent Chief Constables to decide how best to deploy officers in their force area.</p><p>HMICFRS’s 2017 PEEL: Effectiveness inspection graded 34 forces as good at preventing crime and anti-social behaviour, four more than in 2016. Some forces had changed their approach to neighbourhood policing to ensure sufficient officers and PCSOs dedicated to preventative and community focused activity.
