star this property answer text <p>My Department and the Department for Business, Energy &amp; Industrial Strategy worked closely with industry to engage with the European Commission to provide a tariff-free quota allocation for UK steel exports into the EU from 1 January 2021. The European Commission announced the creation of a UK allocation on 30 October. As a result, the UK steel industry will avoid an £80m tariff bill in the first half of next year, according to UK Steel estimates.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Before the pandemic hit, global trade was already in trouble. Nine out of the top ten exporting countries – including China, Japan, Germany, and the USA – all saw their exports fall in 2019 (according to UNCTAD data). The one exception to this was the United Kingdom, which overtook France to become the world’s fifth largest exporter. Our exports increased by 4.2% to £689.3bn in 2019. star this property answer text <p>We have set out the potential impacts of Free Trade Agreements in our published Scoping Assessments for the US, Australia, New Zealand and CPTPP. An Impact Assessment has also been published on the recently signed agreement with Japan, which shows that it goes beyond the existing EU deal, providing a long-run boost to the UK economy of around £1.5bn, compared to a situation without the deal. Output in the North West and Wales could increase by £64 million and £34 million respectively.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Our trade policies will open global markets for UK farmers and lower their input costs. We have successfully rolled over EU FTAs but now want to give farmers enhanced access to countries with whom the EU could not or would not do a deal. We are giving farmers a stronger voice in trade policy, putting the Trade and Agriculture Commission on a statutory footing and we have just launched a major promotion campaign for the industry.</p> more like this

The UK remains the top destination in Europe, and third in the world for foreign direct investment.  By the end of 2017, UK inward FDI stock levels reached <strong>£1,337bn</strong>, a record for the UK.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to publishing annual analysis of DIT’s FDI performance as Official Statistics, we recently published one of the most comprehensive analyses of the economic impact of FDI in the world, highlighting the benefits of FDI to the UK.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Export Strategy, launched in August this year, sets out a new offer to business that provides the support and finance to help UK businesses export. This was created in consultation with business and business organisations to help maximise our exports across the whole of the UK.</p><p><br>Much has already been achieved, like the expansion of finance-led Supplier Fairs delivered by UK Export Finance and an enhanced digital service linking businesses with thousands of export opportunities on great.gov.uk. Preparations to implement further commitments are also well developed, with a view to these being rolled out over coming months.</p> more like this

I am delighted that in its centenary year UK Export Finance was awarded ‘Best Export Credit Agency’ at the 2019 International Trade Finance Awards.
