star this property answer text <p>The Speaker's Committee does not have any plans to make an assessment of the matter referred to.</p><p>However, the Electoral Commission will publish a full report on how the May elections were delivered, including how voters found taking part, and what lessons can be learned for the future.</p><p>As part of this process, the Commission will independently examine evidence about how the new voter ID requirement was implemented. It will collect data from every local authority that held elections, including the number of voters who did not bring an accepted form of ID with them to the polling station and were therefore unable to vote.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Electoral Commission’s independent evaluation of the Government’s pilots, held in 2018 and 2019, found no evidence that turnout was significantly affected by the trialled introduction of an ID requirement at polling stations.</p><p>However, the evaluations noted that the pilots were not representative of the UK population and it was therefore not possible to draw definitive conclusions, particularly about the likely impact at a national poll with higher levels of turnout.</p><p>The Commission will have significant responsibilities to raise public awareness about the new ID requirement. This will have a predominant focus on those demographics known to be less likely to have the necessary identification, including those from lower socio-economic groups, those with disabilities and the unemployed.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>While the standard passport application service does not have a guaranteed timeframe, the vast majority of passports are issued within the published processed times.</p><p> </p><p>Where a customer requests in writing the return of supporting documents prior to the checks being completed upon an application, HM Passport Office will endeavour to return these as quickly as possible. However, HM Passport Office does reserve the right to request that these documents be resubmitted to enable it to complete its checks, and may result in the application taking longer.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Under our proposals for introducing voter identification, everyone who is eligible to vote will continue to have the opportunity to do so. Any eligible voter who does not have one of the wide range of acceptable forms of photographic identification, can apply for a free, local Voter card from their local authority. The Electoral Commission will provide a comprehensive, targeted communications campaign and guidance, raising awareness throughout the electorate of the new voter identification requirements. Likewise, the Government will continue to work with charities and civil society organisations across the UK to ensure that voter identification works for all voters, and all groups are aware of the new requirements.</p><p> </p> more like this

Information relating to applications for Voter Cards and issued Voter Cards will be held by Electoral Registration Officers at the local authority level.</p><p>The process for confirming the identity of an applicant for a Voter Card will be set out in secondary legislation, and will include a range of data sources that an Electoral Registration Officer may choose to check an application against, to ensure an inclusive process. The Government intends to allow for online applications to be made via a centralised website, and applications made in this way may be checked automatically against data sources held by central government - for example checking a national insurance number. The results of any such checks would be passed on to the relevant Electoral Registration Officer, for them to consider while making their decision.</p><p>The Government has no plans for Voter Cards to have the capacity to hold biometric or electronic data. As set out in the Government’s recent policy statement ‘Protecting the integrity of our elections: Voter identification at polling stations and the new Voter Card”, published on 6 January 2022, Voter Cards will be designed solely for the purpose of voting at polling stations. They will intentionally not include information that is not necessary for that purpose - for example they will not show a date of birth.</p><p> </p>
