	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2022 answer text <p>The Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme is the Government’s main mechanism for supporting new low-carbon electricity generation projects in Great Britain. The fourth allocation round of the CfD scheme (AR4) opened on 13 December 2021 and aims to secure more low-carbon electricity capacity than the previous three rounds combined. AR4 is open to an expanded number of renewable technologies, including offshore wind, onshore wind, solar, tidal stream and floating offshore wind. In February, the Government also announced that the next CfD allocation round will be brought forward to March 2023, and future rounds will run annually, rather than every two years, thereafter. This will support renewable electricity producers and further drive deployment of renewable power.</p><p>In 2019 BEIS launched the Storage at Scale competition, which funded demonstration facilities for two innovative energy storage facilities. In 2021, BEIS launched a further programme, The Longer Duration Energy Storage competition. In February 2022, BEIS announced funding for 24 projects under this competition to perform engineering design or feasibility studies of their technologies. The Government is reviewing the responses to the Call for Evidence on large-scale, long-duration electricity storage, alongside analysis the Department commissioned on the role of this type of storage in the electricity system. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/11/2015 answer text <p>Part of the purpose of the feed-in tariff (FIT) review consultation was to gather views on the broader economic impact of the proposed changes. We also sought views on whether the scheme should be focussed towards specific groups or sectors which might, for example, include households or communities. We had a strong response from community energy groups via the consultation and workshops.</p><p>The actual impact on the community sector will depend on the options taken forward after all responses to the consultation have been considered. We are currently analysing feedback submitted during the consultation and intend to publish a Government response as soon as possible.</p><p>The purpose of the tax-advantaged venture capital schemes is to provide funding to smaller higher-risk companies that would otherwise struggle to access finance to develop and grow. To ensure that the schemes are well targeted and deliver value for money, the government announced at the Autumn Statement the exclusion of all remaining energy generation activities from the schemes. This follows the exclusion of certain types of energy generation in 2012, 2014 and 2015, including most recently the announcement that the provision of reserve energy generating capacity and the generation of renewable energy benefiting from other government support by community energy organisations would be excluded from the schemes with effect from 30<sup>th</sup> November 2015, as well as from Social Investment Tax Relief when that scheme is expanded. As was outlined in the ‘After the Trilemma’ speech of 15 November 2018, it is important that we develop an energy system that discourages free riding and ensures a fair distribution of costs.</p><p> </p><p>Network charging is a matter for Ofgem as the independent regulator, and decisions on its Targeted Charging Review are for it to make. However, Government is working to understand the policy implications of Ofgem’s review proposals across a broad range of interests, including renewable energy. Under current eligibility criteria, renewable projects are not eligible to receive CfD support if they have already commenced generating. In a Government Response to a consultation published in November 2020 the government clarified the eligibility of part-built projects, i.e. those which have begun construction but have not commenced generating, stating that these projects are eligible to compete in the 2021 allocation round. We consider this achieves the right balance between accelerating deployment of renewables, whilst providing value for money for consumers by ensuring scheme costs are limited to what is necessary to legitimately stimulate deployment. As set out in my Rt. Hon. Friend the Prime Ministers’ Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, we have committed to holding regular CfD allocation rounds approximately every two years, and the next round will open in December 2021. The Department continues to keep the scheme under review to ensure it maintains a focus on investment certainty and stability to enable renewable deployment at scale.
