unstar this property answer text <p><del class="ministerial">All political parties since WW2 have</del> <ins class="ministerial">Successive post-war Governments have followed</ins> the same policy. Up-rating UK State Pensions for recipients who are overseas residents is longstanding; state Pensions are payable worldwide and are up-rated where there is a legal requirement to do so.</p><p> </p><p>The policy on the up-rating of UK State Pensions paid to recipients living outside the UK has been in place for over 70 years. The UK State Pension is payable worldwide without regard to nationality. Entitlement to the UK State Pension is based on the national insurance contributions on a person’s national insurance record. The annual index-linked increases to UK State Pensions are paid to recipients overseas only where there is a legal requirement to do so, for example in EEA countries or in countries where there is a reciprocal agreement in place that provides for the up-rating of the UK State Pension. The government has no plans to change its social security relationship with these countries on state pensions.</p><p> </p><p>Requests for social security agreements may be raised in formal and informal meetings and in correspondence at both ministerial and official level. The Department for Work and Pensions does not, as a matter of routine, maintain full records of such requests. The department can, however, confirm that a response was provided to the government of Canada in August 2022 on its request to conclude a reciprocal agreement to include state pension uprating, where the department outlined its longstanding position as stated above.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>There is no connection between State Pension uprating and taxation.</p><p> </p><p>An individual’s UK State Pension is based on the number of qualifying years on their National Insurance record.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has a clear position, which has remained a consistent policy of successive Governments for around 70 years. UK State Pensions are payable worldwide and are uprated abroad where we have a legal requirement to do so; for example in the European Economic Area, or countries where we have a reciprocal social security agreement that allows for State Pension uprating which include the British Overseas Territories of Gibraltar and Bermuda. We have no plans to change this policy.</p> more like this

UK State Pensions are up-rated overseas only where there is a legal requirement to do so. The Government has no plans to change this policy.</p><p> </p><p>People who live outside the UK will not receive an increase in their State Pension unless they live in:</p><p>- an EEA country or Switzerland; or</p><p>- a country with which DWP have a reciprocal agreement that allows for it. These countries are:</p><ul><li>Barbados</li><li>Bermuda</li><li>Gibraltar</li><li>Guernsey</li><li>The Isle of Man</li><li>Israel</li><li>Jamaica</li><li>Jersey</li><li>Mauritius</li><li>the Philippines</li><li>Turkey</li><li>The United States of America, and</li><li>the separate republics of the former Yugoslavia* that are not EU Member States (Bosnia and Herzegovina; Kosovo; Montenegro; North Macedonia; and Serbia).</li></ul><p>*Following the break-up of Yugoslavia, the UK agreement with former Yugoslavia now covers Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia.</p>
