unstar this property answer text <p>The Shared Parental Leave and Pay scheme gives working families more choice and flexibility about who cares for their child in the first year, and when.</p><p> </p><p>In 2019, the Government consulted on high-level options for reforming parental leave and pay and considered international evidence which suggested a range of factors that encourage parents to share work and childcare more equally.</p><p> </p><p>We sought views on the benefits, costs and trade-offs that would flow from any such reform. unstar this property answer text <p>The UK has a generous system of parental leave and pay entitlements which include Maternity and Paternity Leave and Pay.</p><p> </p><p>The standard rate of Statutory Maternity Pay and Paternity Pay is reviewed annually. Subject to parliamentary approval, from April 2024, it will increase by 6.7% from £172.48 to £184.03.</p><p> </p><p>Statutory parental payments are designed to offer a degree of earnings replacement and have never been intended to fully replace lost earnings. The Government also has provisions in place such as tax credits, child benefit and Universal Credit, which provide support with the cost of raising children.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The number of parents taking Shared Parental Pay has increased in line with predications made when the policy was introduced and has doubled between 2015-16 and 2021-22.</p><p> </p><ul><li>2015-2016: 6,200</li><li>2021-2022: 13,000</li></ul><p> </p><p>In June 2021, the Government introduced the Shared Parental Leave tool on gov.uk which supports parents to plan their leave. The tool has received positive feedback from users on both its ability to support the planning of Shared Parental Leave and facilitate conversations between parents and employers.</p> more like this

Having reviewed consultation responses from a range of stakeholders and taken account of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided that such a requirement should be considered as part of the process of considering how successful the Gender Pay Gap Reporting Regulations have been, and how Gender Pay Gap Reporting may be taken forward.</p><p> </p><p>A fully considered review of Gender Pay Gap Reporting will be published in due course.</p> more like this

The SPL evaluation will also include an up-to-date estimate of eligibility and take-up based on survey data. The evaluation will be published in due course.</p><p> </p><p>The fieldwork for the Maternity and Paternity Rights survey took place between Mar-Nov 2019, between Aug 2019 and Feb 2020 for the qualitative study of parents and between Sep 2018 and Feb 2019 for the Management and Wellbeing Practices Survey.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Existing parental leave rights give employees who have taken parental leave the right to return to the same or similar job. For example, a woman has the right to return to the same job after ordinary maternity leave (the first 26 weeks of leave). The Government has committed, when Parliamentary time allows, to extend redundancy protections into a period of return to work for particular forms of parental leave. The Government announced a Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) returners programme on International Women's Day to encourage those who have taken breaks to care for others back into STEM, building on previous Government returner initiatives.</p><p> </p> more like this
