	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/06/2018 answer text <p>The Government values the contribution which migrants makes to the NHS</p><p>We have commissioned the independent Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to advise on the economic and social impacts of the UK’s exit from the EU and also on how the UK’s immigration system should be aligned with a modern industrial strategy. <br>The Government will want to ensure that decisions on the long-term arrangements are based on evidence. The commission that we have asked the MAC to undertake is very much part of this. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/04/2018 answer text <p>The Tier 2 (General) visa route is intended to fill gaps in the UK labour market and is designed to serve the national interest by ensuring that employers look first to the UK resident labour market before recruiting from overseas. The route is capped at 20,700 places a year and the criteria for entry to the route is set following advice from the independent Migration Advisory Committee. Places are allocated on a monthly basis, with the highest priority being given to jobs in national shortage, followed by PhD-level occupations, graduate level jobs and then by salary from highest to lowest, in line with those that provide the greatest economic benefit to the UK. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/04/2018 answer text <p>The Tier 2 (General) minimum salary thresholds for overseas doctors were set following consultation with the independent Migration Advisory Committee and are based on pay scales published by the NHS – and have not been recently changed.</p><p> </p><p>The minimum salary for Tier 2 is £30,000 or £20,800 for new entrants, or the appropriate rate for the job, whichever is the higher. The minimum salary levels are based on the salary distribution for all positions in the UK.
