star this property answer text The UK continues to demand full and sustained humanitarian access to besieged communities in Syria, including Eastern Ghouta, at every opportunity including at the UN. The UK strongly condemns the recent attacks and continued siege of Eastern Ghouta where, due to the Syrian regime’s obstruction of aid deliveries and medical evacuations, as well as the increased aerial bombardments by pro-regime forces, the humanitarian situation has rapidly deteriorated over the last three months. UK officials raised our concerns regarding Eastern Ghouta at the weekly International Syria Support Group Humanitarian and Ceasefire Taskforces in Geneva on 14 December, as did the UK’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York at the humanitarian briefing to the UN Security Council on 19 December. I issued a statement on 14 December calling for all parties to the conflict to facilitate humanitarian access, allow for emergency medical evacuations and take all feasible measures to protect civilians, as required under international humanitarian law.

The Foreign Secretary has discussed the situation with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman several times in recent weeks, most recently with the Crown Prince on 19 December. We welcome the Coalition's announcement on 20 December that Hodeidah port will reopen for both humanitarian and commercial supplies, including fuel and food. On 20 December, the Prime Minister discussed this announcement with King Salman and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman. In 2017/18, the British Government is committing £205 million in humanitarian aid to Yemen.
more like this

star this property answer text
Significant progress has been made on developing DFID’s new education policy. Since July, we have reviewed the latest evidence on how to deliver quality education, much of which is funded by DFID. We have also consulted extensively, including engaging with education experts in academia, the public and private sectors, and international organisations. This has enabled evaluation of where DFID can add the most value. We are developing a policy in line with our strengths and expertise. We anticipate the policy will be launched in early 2018.

more like this
