star this property answer text
It is vital that all levels of Government, as well as civil society, business and others, continue to work together to deliver the Global Goals.

The UK Voluntary National Review (VNR) will be an important opportunity to highlight work across the country to support delivery of the Global Goals, and we are determined it will tell the story beyond Central Government. Last month the Government hosted a series of VNR engagement events, including two focussed on local delivery of the Goals in Leeds and Bristol. We have also received over 200 submissions from organisations to our VNR website, showcasing what they are doing to deliver the Goals. This included a number of submissions from local authorities.

The VNR is a stepping-stone rather than an end in itself and is an important tool to further galvanise action and activity across the UK in pursuit of the Goals.
more like this

In December 2018 the government published a draft indicator framework for the Environment Plan that aims to capture the wide range of impacts that economic actions have on the environment.

The Government is committed to working with the Office for National Statistics to incorporate natural capital into the UK Environmental Accounts by 2020 so that the benefits of nature would be better recognised. This commitment has been reiterated in the 25 Year Environment plan. The UK accounts are being used to inform natural capital accounts and decisions by businesses and other land owning bodies.

To enable consumers and businesses to make more sustainable choices we have reduced plastic waste by introducing one of the world’s strongest microbead bans, setting out plans to ban plastic straws, cotton buds and stirrers and extending the 5p plastic bag charge, and overhauling our waste system with a comprehensive Resources and Waste Strategy.

The Government has launched the Year of Green Action to draw together targeted actions to make it easier for people to get involved in improving the natural world and spread the word about environmental issues. It will provide a focal point for organisations, individuals, communities and businesses to learn more about their environmental impact and take action to reduce it.

On the international stage the UK is at the forefront of combatting the illegal wildlife trade. Our landmark Ivory Act put one of the world’s toughest bans on the sale of ivory into law.

star this property answer text
A key strategic objective of the UK aid strategy is to strengthen resilience and response to crises. This is, in our view, critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the most vulnerable countries. DFID’s crises response is needs-based, and therefore particularly sensitive to women and girls, as one of the groups most impacted in crises. DFID also continuously adapts its programmes to prepare for, and build resilience to, crises. This includes a focus on supporting jobs and livelihoods for the most vulnerable groups including women and girls. In Nepal, we support disaster risk reduction efforts that provide work opportunities to the most vulnerable and ensure that women can access these through targeted recruitment campaigns. The DFID-funded Centre for Global Disaster Protection also works with developing countries to improve their financial resilience to disasters and help them safeguard economic development for the most vulnerable, including women and girls.
