We recognise that applicants may lack documentary evidence for assorted reasons, we are committed to working flexibly with applicants to help them evidence their continuous residence in the UK by the best means available to them.</p><p>Caseworkers will be able to exercise discretion in favour of the applicants where appropriate, to avoid unnecessary administrative burdens and delays. To that end, insight and feedback are used continuously to improve our services. Where an application is made in the UK, customers can contact our in-country contact centre and are provided with information about the Immigration Rules and the requirements of the Points Based System.</p><p>In addition to the established contact system, since the commitments mentioned by the Hon. Member on 23<sup>rd</sup> April, several improved services have been introduced. This will enable them to continue their lives in the UK with the same entitlements to work, study and access public services and benefits. Evidence of this new UK immigration status will be given in digital form to EU citizens. This will provide them with a convenient way of evidencing their status to those who may need to see confirmation of it, such as an employer, landlord or other service provider. It is right that we continue to offer safe and legal routes to the UK for the most vulnerable, for whom resettlement is the only durable solution.</p><p>This announcement is a clear statement of intent and the department will work to secure longer-term funding for the future of resettlement through the next Spending Review.
