star this property answer text Whilst the latest flogging has been postponed, we remain seriously concerned by Raif Badawi’s case. The UK condemns the use of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment in all circumstances. We have raised Mr Badawi’s case at a senior level with the Saudi authorities. The UK is a strong supporter of freedom of expression around the world. We believe that people must be allowed to freely discuss and debate issues, challenge their governments, exercise the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, and speak out against violations of human rights wherever they occur. more like this

We have called for the Iranian government to protect the rights of all minority groups and end the persecution of individuals on the basis of their faith. We last raised these issues with the Iranian government during our interventions at the Universal Periodic Review of Iran’s Human Rights at the UN on 31 October. more like this

star this property answer text We advise British Nationals to consult the Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) Travel Advice before travelling to Egypt, which provides the latest information on the bird flu virus in Egypt. It currently states that cases of bird flu in Egypt are mostly in rural areas, that the risk to humans from Avian Influenza is believed to be very low, that live animal markets, poultry farms and other close contact with domestic, caged or wild birds should be avoided, and that poultry and egg dishes should be thoroughly cooked. We keep our Travel Advice under continuous review based on robust and up-to-date information and analysis from our experts in-country and we will make further updates to our Travel Advice as necessary. more like this

star this property answer text The nuclear negotiations between the E3+3 and Iran have focused entirely on resolving the nuclear issue. We do however remain extremely concerned both by Iran’s poor human rights record, and by its links to militant groups outside its borders. We continue to address these problems in our bilateral contacts with Iran and through multilateral channels such as the UN. more like this

star this property answer text The moderate opposition groups in Syria are under pressure. The Government remains longstanding and strong supporters of these groups. We are providing non-lethal support, as well as strong political backing for the National Coalition – most recently when President Hadi al-Bahra visited London from 10th-12th November. We also plan to make a significant contribution to the US Department of Defence training programme for the Syrian groups. Taken together, our contribution is helping the moderate groups in their fight against ISIL and against President Assad’s regime forces, in very challenging conditions. more like this
