Our policy framework will respect the work of farmers and support environmental goods.</p><p> </p><p>Continued support is important, and so is reform. We need to take the opportunity that being outside the Common Agricultural Policy will give us to use public money to reward environmentally responsible land use.</p><p> </p><p>We have no intention of weakening our current environmental protections. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/09/2017 answer text <p>Defra undertook a review of implementation of the EU Nature Directives, published in March 2012, which also fed into the Law Commission’s ongoing review of wildlife legislation at that time. The Law Commission published its recommendations on 10 November 2015, to which the Government responded on 22 November 2016.</p><p> </p><p>The Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006 is currently subject to post-legislative scrutiny. Defra’s memorandum provides a preliminary assessment of the Act, which has been submitted to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/01/2017 answer text <p>On 14 December this year, Defra published new Greening Government Commitments for the period 2016 to 2020. This action builds on the previous set of commitments, so implementation is essentially already underway.</p><p> </p><p>Considerable progress has already been made. Between 2009-10 and 2014-15, the UK Government as a whole reduced its greenhouse gas emissions and waste by 22% each and its water consumption by 11%. The reporting framework was rolled forward during 2015-16 to enable further progress on the previous targets and to allow time to develop the new commitments. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/05/2023 answer text <p>The Environment Act’s statutory cycle of monitoring, planning and reporting ensures that government will take early, regular steps to achieve targets and can be held to account with regular scrutiny from the Office for Environmental Protection and Parliament. A key part of this cycle is the Annual Progress Report which describes what has been done to implement the Environmental Improvement Plan and considers whether the natural environment, or aspects of it, have improved over the reporting period. The latest APR was published on 20<sup>th</sup> July 2022.</p><p> </p><p>In addition to other sources, the Annual Progress report utilises data from the Outcome Indicator Framework for the 25 Year Environment Plan which is a suite of outcome indicators that measure changes to the environment. The 2023 annual update to the Outcome Indicator Framework was published on 22 May 2023 and provides the latest data on environmental trends.</p><p> </p><p>The Environmental Improvement Plan 2023 is the first revision of the 25 Year Environment Plan. The Outcome Indicator Framework will be reviewed in 2024 to evaluate its ongoing suitability and consideration of best available evidence. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/07/2020 answer text <p>In June the Government published its second 25 Year Environment Plan Progress Report. This second report describes where progress has been made towards achieving the long-term vision of the plan. It also highlights the challenges that still remain in improving the environment within a generation and which we are committed to addressing.</p><p>In the last 12 months we have taken significant steps forward in delivering our environmental commitments outlined in our 25 Year Environment Plan. We became the first major economy to legislate for net zero and underlining our commitment to achieving this target, we launched a consultation on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol and diesel vehicles to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible, including hybrids for the first time. We have also taken action to conserve our marine environment, including by designating the third tranche of 41 new Marine Conservation Zones in May 2019. We are also investing £640 million in a new Nature for Climate Fund to support woodland creation and peatland restoration. Action under each of the goal areas of the 25 Year Environment Plan is set out in the report.</p><p>A major step in implementing our environmental ambition has been bringing forward the first Environment Bill for more than 20 years to help leave the environment in a better state than that in which we found it. The Bill, alongside our strengthened Agriculture and Fisheries Bills, sets a new legal foundation for government action to improve the environment. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/02/2023 answer text <p>The Environment Act 2021 designated the 25 Year Environment Plan (25YEP), published in 2018, as the first Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP). As committed to in the Environment Act, on the 31<sup>st </sup>January the Government published its revised Environmental Improvement Plan (EIP23) which continues to use the 25YEP's ten goals as a basis.</p><p> </p><p>EIP23 sets out the progress made against all ten goals, the specific targets and commitments made in relation to each goal, and our plan to continue to deliver existing targets and the overarching goals.</p><p> </p><p>Under the Environment Act 2021, Defra must report annually on the implementation of the EIP and review it every five years, so will continue to publish an Annual Progress Report setting out progress over the previous 12 months, alongside the 25 YEP Outcome Indicator Framework.
