star this property answer text <p>The Cabinet Office Centre for Public Appointments, which works across Whitehall, as well as with the private sector and different stakeholder groups, has modernised recruitment practices and attracted a more diverse field of candidates from an ever-wider range of social and professional backgrounds by:</p><p> </p><p>· Placing an emphasis on ability, rather than prior experience, ensuring key roles in public bodies are open to those with skills required</p><p> </p><p>· Increasing awareness of public appointments through a central online advertising website, events and social media</p><p> </p><p>· Simplifying the application process to just require a CV and cover letter</p><p> </p><p>· Assessing every job advert to ensure they are fit for purpose and are open to a wider number of applicants to ensure a diverse pool of candidates.</p><p> </p><p>In 2013 the Government published its strategy for Increasing Diversity in Public Appointments. The Cabinet Office will be publishing an update to this strategy later this year.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The independent Commission on Dormant Assets’ final meeting was held on 1st December 2016. The Commission published its report on 3 March 2017 and is not scheduled to meet again.</p><p> </p><p>The Commission met a wide range of stakeholders, convened industry working groups and ran a call for evidence sent to around 200 organisations.</p><p>The Commission worked to Government-agreed Terms of Reference, to provide expert, independent and impartial advice and evidence on:</p><ul><li>which dormant assets can be brought into an expanded dormant asset scheme, and how they can be identified by industry;</li><li>the projected size of the funding pot this could produce for good causes;</li><li>whether, with the potential increase of dormant assets being released by industry, the current system is able to manage the burden; and</li><li>whether any new legislation should include a requirement for improved transparency from industry on disclosing the level of assets within their sector</li></ul><p> </p>

There is an existing statutory duty on local authorities through Education Act 2006 (Section 507B) to secure, as far as is practicable, sufficient services and activities to improve the wellbeing of young people. Individual local authorities would be best placed to advise on any changes there have been to the number of youth service staff posts in their local area.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>NCS was created to help build a more responsible, more cohesive, more engaged society. The government is committed to providing a place on NCS for every young person who wants one.</p><p> </p><p>Social mix is at the core of National Citizen Service and all young people, regardless of background, are supported to take part in the programme.</p><p> </p><p>In 2014, 17% of NCS participants were eligible for free school meals, compared with around 8% of young people of the same age in the general population.</p><p> </p><p>The national picture of NCS shows that young people from disadvantaged and minority ethnic backgrounds are well represented. The latest evaluation showed that 30% of NCS participants were from Black, Mixed or Asian backgrounds compared with 19% of the general population.</p><p> </p><p>The 2014 evaluation demonstrates that NCS graduates are more confident leaders and decision-makers. 7 in 10 NCS graduates felt more confident about getting a job, and more than 9 in 10 graduates felt NCS helped them develop useful skills for the future. Data from the summer 2014 programme showed that participants who were eligible for free school meals generally showed larger increases in personal resilience than others.</p>

star this property answer text <p>The London 2012 Olympic Games were a huge success with sold-out venues and the best British performance for over 100 years in winning 65 medals. The Games left a legacy of increased participation and world-class sporting venues which are now being used by our elite athletes as well as local communities.</p><p> </p><p>The commitment from the Government immediately following the London 2012 Olympic Games to confirm and sustain Exchequer support for the UK Sport World Class Programme was a significant moment in underpinning the success of Rio, providing UK Sport, and the National Governing Bodies of sport, with the necessary financial support to invest in medal success across the Olympic and Paralympic sports.</p><p> </p><p>I am confident that this success will continue at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, and through to Tokyo in 2020 and beyond. Since 2012, UK Sport funded athletes have given back over 18,000 days visiting schools and local projects as part of our commitment to inspire the next generation.</p><p> </p>

We are determined to get more people from under-represented groups including women and ethnic minorities taking part in sport and physical activity and to remove any barrier that prevents them from doing so.
