star this property answer text <p>Since launching trade negotiations with Switzerland in May 2023, the UK has held four rounds of negotiations on an enhanced Free Trade Agreement. The fourth round took place from 4 to 8 March 2024. Discussions were productive, provisionally closing the chapter on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This will help UK SMEs expand their operations more easily into the Swiss market.</p><p> </p><p>The fifth round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in early summer where we will look to make further positive progress.</p><p> </p><p>We continue to keep Parliament and the public informed through regular <a href="https://questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-statements/detail/2024-03-21/hcws359" target="_blank">parliamentary</a> and <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/enhanced-uk-switzerland-fta-negotiations-update-march-2024" target="_blank">GOV.UK</a> updates.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Department for Business and Trade is making good progress in negotiations on an enhanced UK-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement. Both the UK and Switzerland agree this should include outcomes in areas such as digital, data and investment.</p><p> </p><p>For investment, UK negotiators are seeking legally guaranteed preferential access to the Swiss market for UK investors and companies. On digital, the UK aims to enhance trade commitments such as those supporting paperless trading. For data, UK objectives include seeking to prevent unjustified localisation, facilitating the free flow of data, and upholding the UK’s high standard of personal data protection.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Further to the launch of the UK-Swiss free trade agreement on 15 May 20203, the UK hosted the first round of negotiations the week commencing Monday 22nd May 2023. A second round of negotiations will take place in the autumn. We have committed to informing Parliament as soon as agreements are signed with partner countries.</p><p> </p><p>As set out in our letter to the Chairman of the International Trade Committee, we will be publishing a full report on the UK-Switzerland Trade Agreement, once the agreement is signed. star this property answer text <p>We will be seeking, wherever possible, to secure continuity with third countries as we withdraw from the EU.</p><p> </p><p>During the implementation period, the existing international agreements we are party to should continue to apply, including the EEA Agreement, Swiss- EU bilaterals and other agreements which govern the crucial elements of our trading and non-trading relationship with the EFTA states of Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. We have said that people should be able to continue to live, work and visit the UK during the implementation period but there will be a registration system in preparation for our future immigration regime.</p><p> </p><p>Once the implementation period ends, we will no longer participate in these agreements and will need to put in place new arrangements with these countries. After we leave we will put in place an immigration system which works in the best interests of the whole of the UK. The UK will remain open for business; a country which recognises the valuable contribution migrants make to our society and welcomes those with the skills and expertise to make our nation better still.</p>
