The Department holds regular performance meetings with Assessment Providers at local and senior levels. Assessments are independently audited and Departmental clinicians periodically observe assessments. Both providers have increased personalised clinical support to all Health Professionals. star this property answer text <p>As outlined in the Written Statement (<a href="https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2018-06-25/debates/18062515000008/PersonalIndependencePayments" target="_blank">HCWS793</a>) on 25 June 2018, the Department has begun the administrative exercise to identify claims who may be affected by the Upper Tribunal judgment in RJ, which concerned how we consider whether an activity is carried out safely considers a claimant to be carrying out an activity safely and whether they need supervision to do soconsiders a claimant to be carrying out an activity safely and whether they need supervision to do so. Since November 2017, new claims for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) have been assessed under the new guidance.</p><p> </p><p>For further information on the administrative exercise, I refer the Hon. star this property answer text <p>The previous figure published by DWP was a preliminary estimate of the expected impact of implementing the judgment; we have since updated the analysis with a larger sample. The estimated impacts arising from the later sample were not as large as seen in the earlier, smaller sample. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) are an independent body that provides scrutiny of departmental forecasts for fiscal events, including specific costing exercises such as this. OBR chose to publish the later, larger sample of the MH implementation costs, as this is likely to be more representative.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Where someone is maintained free of charge while undergoing medical or other treatment as an in-patient in a hospital or similar institution funded by the NHS, payment of (but not entitlement to) Personal Independence Payment (PIP) ceases after 28 days. This is on the basis that the NHS is responsible for the entirety of the person’s disability-related extra costs and to pay PIP in addition would be a duplication of public funds intended for the same purpose. Once someone is discharged from hospital, payment of PIP recommences from the date of discharge.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In August 2018, we introduced updated guidance for case managers which will ensure that those who receive the highest level of support under Personal Independence Payment, and where their needs are unlikely to change or may get worse, will now receive an ongoing award with a light touch review at the ten year point. A copy of the award period guidance will be placed in the Library.</p><p> </p><p>The light touch review process and guidance itself has not yet been developed, but we aim to do so well in advance of the first such reviews taking place.
