The Department holds regular performance meetings with Assessment Providers at local and senior levels. Assessments are independently audited and Departmental clinicians periodically observe assessments. Both providers have increased personalised clinical support to all Health Professionals. Since November 2017, new claims for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) have been assessed under the new guidance.</p><p> </p><p>For further information on the administrative exercise, I refer the Hon. The estimated impacts arising from the later sample were not as large as seen in the earlier, smaller sample. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) are an independent body that provides scrutiny of departmental forecasts for fiscal events, including specific costing exercises such as this. This is on the basis that the NHS is responsible for the entirety of the person’s disability-related extra costs and to pay PIP in addition would be a duplication of public funds intended for the same purpose. A copy of the award period guidance will be placed in the Library.</p><p> </p><p>The light touch review process and guidance itself has not yet been developed, but we aim to do so well in advance of the first such reviews taking place.
