	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/06/2019 answer text <p>Data for the numbers of assaults and serious assaults in each prison, broken down by type of weapon and type of injury, is set out in the attached tables. The figures are presented by calendar year rather than by quarter. This is because analysis at the level of detail requested produces many results of 5 or fewer. Disclosure-proofing to reduce the risk of identification, in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, requires such low numbers to be suppressed. Even at the annual level, some such values have had to be suppressed.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is taking unprecedented action to improve safety in prisons. We have recruited over 4,700 more prison officers since October 2016, and we now have the greatest number in post since early 2012. The Challenge, Support and Intervention Plan case management process for prisoners at risk of violence has been mandated for all prisons to help staff to manage violent prisoners and those identified as posing a raised risk of being violent.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing an extra £70 million to improve safety, security and decency, and equipping officers with PAVA incapacitant spray and body-worn cameras to help prevent serious harm to staff and prisoners when dealing with violent incidents. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/05/2019 answer text <p>The National Probation Service (NPS) conducts an annual survey of its staff, which includes questions on well-being (relating to respondents’ life as a whole, not simply their employment) and also their engagement with the NPS. The survey results cover everyone employed by the NPS, both operational and administrative staff. A new provider was commissioned to deliver the service (now known as Structured Professional Support) in April 2018. This includes giving them control of their education budgets, deciding on the curriculum to be delivered and playing a role in choosing the provider(s) of their education delivery to best meet the needs of their prisoners.</p><p> </p><p>To measure planned and actual improvements in educational performance, we will assess that the prison infrastructure supports education;</p><ul><li>that prison education is fully integrated into all aspects of prison life;</li><li>that those in custody are assessed at the start and end of their sentences;</li><li>and that providers and their staff work flexibly and collaboratively to deliver high quality educational provision.</li></ul><p>We will also ensure that education is available in every prison; that prisoners all have a personal learning plan linked to their sentence plan; and that provision is suitable to address the needs of the those concerned. That report must then be followed up with a written report within 24 hours (or, at weekends, by the following Monday). In the case of a deceased prisoner, the prison must also report the death to the Prisons &amp; Probation Ombudsman in writing, within 24 hours. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/05/2019 answer text <p>The performance of all CRCs is robustly managed by the department and we will not hesitate to take action if standards fall short. Contract Management teams rigorously monitor performance across all CRCs. Where poor performance has been identified; relevant contractual levers are applied including service credits and performance improvement plans to drive up the performance standards as required. As of July 2018, there were 35 specific improvement plans in place across 15 of the CRCs and covering 10 service metrics.</p><p> </p><p>On 16 May 2019 the Government made an announcement by setting out plans for the future of probation in England and Wales.
