The recently published 20/21 VRU Evaluation (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/violence-reduction-unit-year-ending-march-2021-evaluation-report/violence-reduction-unit-year-ending-march-2021-evaluation-report" target="_blank">Violence reduction unit year ending March 2021 evaluation report - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)</a>) has shown positive early signs of the programme’s impact, estimating that the combination of VRU and targeted enforcement activity has prevented approximately 49,000 violent offences over their first two years of activity compared to unfunded areas (41,377 violence without injury offences and 7,636 violence with injury offences). Relative to the amount of serious violence funding over the same period, this represents an estimated return of £3.16 for every £1 invested in serious violence.</p><p> </p><p>We will continue to monitor trends in violence closely and conduct yearly independent evaluations into the VRU programme to assess the programme’s impact.</p> answering member constituency North West Hampshire answering member printed Kit Malthouse question first answered 05/07/2022 15:35:43 answering member 4495 label Biography information for Kit Malthouse

	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/02/2021 answer text <p>Over two financial years the Home Office has invested a total of £70m into the development of 18 Violence Reduction Units (VRUs) in the areas worst affected by serious violence. VRUs bring together local partners to identify the drivers of serious violence and agree a multi-agency response to them, including sharing data to strengthen their understanding. On the 8 February the Home Office announced a further £35.5m investment into VRUs for 21/22.</p><p> </p><p>Our independent evaluation found that in their first year of delivery (19/20) VRUs have made positive progress in embedding a local multi-agency approach including their use and access to data.
