As of the end of April, the last period we can confirm with certainty, the total costs associated with the opening of the school were £8.4m.</p><p> </p><p>Our aim is for the school to open for placements in late 2023. A copy of the application and related documents in the form it had been intended to be published will be placed in the House library. We have made the document available on request as stated on the page providing guidance on secure schools.</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/secure-schools-how-to-apply" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/secure-schools-how-to-apply</a></p><p> </p><p>The application submitted by Oasis in March 2019 outlined the foundation for their operating concept and proposed principles for the secure school, in line with the criteria set out in the secure schools ‘how to apply’ guide. Since they were approved as the successful applicant for the first secure school in July 2019, Oasis have continued to develop and refine their operating model. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/07/2019 answer text <p>Earlier this month we were delighted to announce that Oasis, which runs 52 Academies with 30,000 students across England, have been selected to operate the first secure school in Medway. They have been appointed to preopening, and we will now work with Oasis to develop the operating model for the secure school, and subject to progress, will then agree the arrangements to operate the secure school next year.</p><p> </p><p>We are investing c. £5m investment to repurpose the existing site, which will include extensive refurbishment of classrooms and residential areas. The provider will be awarded an annual budget of c. £9m to operate it.
