star this property answer text
As stated in the Defence Equipment Plan 2018, the Ministry of Defence has secured sizeable cost savings on the Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft (£207 million), Apache Capability Sustainment Programme (£132 million) and Type 26 frigates (£104 million). These are the result of efficiencies identified and realised by Defence Equipment and Support through transformation initiatives. In particular, on the Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft, negotiations with the US Navy and Boeing achieved savings on the aircraft and the initial provision of capital spares. On Apache, economies of scales were achieved through negotiating combined requirements with the US Army and Boeing. And for Type 26, savings were achieved through using improved project control and commercial skills to adopt a much stronger negotiating strategy.
more like this

This included the Dreadnought programme where re-profiling provided opportunities to drive out cost and risk later in the programme to ensure it remains on schedule and within its £31 billion estimated cost. I am withholding the specific information requested as its release would prejudice the commercial interests of the Ministry of Defence.
more like this

Public sector buyers must also publish annually on their payment performance. Her Majesty's Government strongly encourages businesses to report poor payment practice and instances of late payment, including late payment through the supply chain, in public sector contracts to its Mystery Shopper service. Mystery Shopper will then investigate.

The Ministry of Defence has a contract condition (DEFCON 534) which states that all contractors shall pay subcontractors any sums due under an invoice no later than 30 days from when the contractor has determined the invoice is valid. The number of contracts that explicitly include DEFCON 534, or other clauses to this effect, is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
more like this
