This ensured that their insights and lived experiences were incorporated into the development and design of our public campaign to change perceptions and challenge unhelpful stereotypes and behaviours towards disabled people.</p><p> </p><p>As part of the development of the campaign, the Disability Unit set up a Campaign Reference Group, made up of twelve organisations representing disabled people’s organisations and disability charities. We engaged with this group through regular workshops and in-depth discussions to help shape the campaign, and they were consulted on several aspects, including the 'Ask Don't Assume' hashtag, ahead of the launch.</p><p> </p><p>A number of disabled people also worked directly on this campaign, both internally across the Equality Hub, and externally through creative agencies. Four disabled influencers were also involved in this campaign, and the campaign’s images were created by a disabled photographer who has Type 2 Usher Syndrome (deaf and blind). 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2023 answer text <p>The Disability Action Plan will set out the Government’s ambition to improve the lives of disabled people with immediate and practical measures, while laying the foundations for longer term change.</p><p> </p><p>The Disability Action Plan Consultation Document was published on 18 July and will remain open for responses until 6 October 2023.</p><p> </p><p>The consultation document sets out a number of proposals and consultation questions - informed by the experiences of disabled people, research and the current policy landscape - as an initial step to make sure policy development direction is correct.</p><p> </p><p>We are hosting a series of consultation events for stakeholders, including roundtables focused on the proposed areas of action included in the document. Both general stakeholders and subject matter experts will be attending these. Their difficulty can be exacerbated because service provider personnel are unaware of their disability and any different or additional needs they may have.</p><p> </p><p>During the pandemic, the green Sunflower Lanyard scheme gained popularity to indicate an individual's non-visible disability in relation to mask exemption. The Sunflower Lanyard scheme is recognised by some retailers and transport authorities as an indication that a customer or passenger may need additional help because of a non-visible disability. Some individuals prefer to make their non-visible disability known to others by wearing a <em>visible</em> indication of their disability - the Sunflower Lanyard scheme is one such option.</p><p> </p><p>However, this is a personal choice. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/05/2023 answer text <p>In January 2022, the High Court declared the National Disability Strategy was unlawful because the UK Disability Survey, which informed it, was held to be a voluntary consultation that failed to comply with the legal requirements on public consultations.</p><p> </p><p>We are disappointed by, and strongly disagree with, the High Court’s finding, and the Secretary of State has been granted permission to appeal the Court's declaration.</p><p> </p><p>As the NDS was found to be unlawful, we are unable to provide you with the information in the format you have requested, as we do not centrally track commitments included in the NDS.</p><p> </p><p>We are fully committed to supporting disabled people in the UK through creating more opportunities, protecting their rights and ensuring they fully benefit from, and can contribute to, every aspect of our society. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/05/2023 answer text <p>As previously announced, the Disability Action Plan will set out the immediate action the Government will take in 2023 and 2024 to improve disabled people’s lives, as well as laying the foundations for longer term change.</p><p>There is already significant work being taken forward by individual Government departments in areas disabled people have told us are a priority. This includes reforms to employment and welfare via the DWP’s <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/transforming-support-the-health-and-disability-white-paper" target="_blank">‘Transforming Support: Health and Disability White Paper’</a>, and strategies to address health and social care via DHSC’s <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/people-at-the-heart-of-care-adult-social-care-reform-white-paper" target="_blank">‘People at the Heart of Care White Paper’</a>. These are long term reform efforts which are already underway and outside the scope of a new one to two year action plan.</p><p>The plan will go further in areas where we think joint action across Government departments can make a tangible difference to disabled people’s lives in the immediate term - or where we can make meaningful progress towards a longer term goal, for example improved disability data and evidence.</p><p>We are planning to consult on the Disability Action Plan this summer, publishing a full draft of the plan alongside a set of consultation questions.</p><p>This consultation will be an opportunity for everyone - disabled people, disabled people’s organisations, other interested parties - to have their say on the Disability Action Plan.
