star this property answer text
Technological progress has often resulted in shifts in the labour market, and the rise of automation is an example of such a shift.

We believe that new opportunities will be opened up by connected and autonomous vehicle technologies: For example, new high-skilled jobs will be created in their development: we have estimated that the domestic market for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) alone will be worth £28bn by 2035, and that production of CAVs and CAV technologies in the UK will support over 27,000 jobs. 70% of the jobs relating to CAV technology are estimated to be in highly-skilled professional and technical roles in software-related industries. In addition, there will be significant social and economic benefits, which we believe will be a net gain to society, including access to jobs and social inclusion for those that currently find it difficult to get around.

We are engaging in a broad programme of research, development, demonstration, including exploring the full range of social and behavioural impacts of this technology.
