star this property answer text <p>The 100,000 Genomes Project is focussed on recruiting patients, including children, with rare diseases (and their family members) and those with common cancers. These are areas where whole genome sequencing may offer the best opportunity to diagnose disease. From the Project’s pilot phase we have found actionable findings in 20-25% of rare disease patients.</p><p> </p><p>The scope of the project does not include screening at birth. The Chief Medical Officer, in her annual report Generation Genome, recommended that that the National Screening Committee conducts a systematic evaluation of the opportunities offered by genomics for present and potential screening practices.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>In September 2017, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence announced its plans for a full update to the existing clinical guideline on the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) to ensure that treatment reflects the latest available evidence. The revised guideline will be published in 2020.</p><p>Since 2011, we have also invested £6 million into research into CFS/ME via the Medical Research Council and the National Institute for Health Research.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The First Contact Practitioners (FCP) pilot is part of NHS England’s plan to increase staff working in primary care to help ease pressure on general practice. FCPs are physiotherapists with advance practice, who are able to support patient management in primary care. To date, 41 of 42 physiotherapy practitioner pilot sites have commenced, with a further site scheduled to go live on 1 April 2019.</p><p> </p><p>An evaluation report is due to be completed in spring 2019, which is based on pilot site mobilisation. star this property answer text <p>In April 2017 we published the Improving Lives: Helping Workless Families paper which outlined the actions we plan to take in supporting the most vulnerable families.</p><p>This included the launch of an innovative new programme to address parental conflict as this is a critical influence on the quality of parenting. Children exposed to frequent, intense and poorly resolved conflict between parents are at greater risk of poor social, emotional and cognitive outcomes. The new programme will support the use of evidence-based interventions to reduce parental conflict, delivered by specialist organisations at a local level. This will transform lives by supporting parents, whether they are together or separated.</p> more like this
