To place West Coast Partnership under the Operator of Last Resort would remove the opportunity to retain private sector expertise in both the West Coast as an operator and in the HS2 Shadow Operator function. We will deliver a future immigration system which works for the whole of the UK.</p><p>The Government published “The UK’s Points-Based System: Policy Statement” on 19 February.</p><p>Aligned with the independent Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) recommendation, the Government will reduce both the general salary and skills thresholds for those who wish to come to the UK under the new skilled work route.</p><p>In delivering on its manifesto commitments for a new points-based system, the Government has considered relevant views, evidence, and analysis. The decision to end our programme was agreed with the Government of Gambia in 2008, and our office closed in 2011. The decision was taken to wind down the programme gradually as part of a responsible exit, and to ensure partners built on successful DFID programmes.</p><br /><p>The UK continues to maintain a good relationship with the Gambia.
