star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence follows the advice of Public Health England's Advisory Committee for Malaria Prevention in providing appropriately tested and effective methods of chemo-prophylaxis to Service personnel who are deploying to areas of the world where there is a risk of contracting malaria. The exact choice of drug depends on a number of factors, including the region the individual is deploying to, the health of the individual and any past history of side effects.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Under the Army 2020 structure, the Royal Armoured Corps will be formed of 10 Regular Regiments made up of three Armoured Regiments, three Armoured Cavalry Regiments and three Light Cavalry Regiments with The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment continuing to support public duties and ceremonial commitments; four Reserve Regiments and one independent Regular squadron providing a Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Area, Survey and Reconnaissance capability. <br><br>The overall establishment of the Royal Armoured Corps will be around 6,000.<br><br>The Armoured Regiments will continue in their existing role as direct combat units and will continue to be equipped with the Challenger 2 tank. From 2020, the Close Reconnaissance troop is planned to have the Scout Specialist Vehicle (SV).<br><br>The Armoured Cavalry Regiments will continue to provide a manned reconnaissance and surveillance capability. They will be equipped with Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance (Tracked) and, from 2020, the Scout SV.<br><br>The Light Cavalry Regiments will provide a highly mobile tactical reconnaissance capability in both mounted and dismounted roles, mainly equipped with Jackal and Coyote vehicles.</p>

star this property answer text <p>Service personnel deserve to have a fair and effective complaints system. I announced in March that we had been working for some time with Dr Atkins, the Service Complaints Commissioner, on proposals for a more efficient system.</p><p> </p><p>In her most recent report, Dr Atkins concluded that she was optimistic that a fairer, more effective system has been agreed, and that, once implemented, Service personnel will have access to a redress system that they deserve. The bill introduced in the House of Lords on 5<sup>th</sup> June 2014 will improve the system to make sure that is what they will get.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence has active defence engagement programmes across Africa that offer military support to African countries and institutions. The intent is to help build the capacity of African countries and institutions to handle the complex security challenges they face, including the threat posed by Islamic extremist organisations. This is achieved by delivering a range of military support including; resident training teams; short term training teams; use of our Defence Attache network; and, the provision of academic and specialised UK military courses. We plan to continue to develop and sustain this activity.<br><br>Key planned military support to African countries facing complex security challenges where Islamic extremism is a significant component, includes:<br><br>The commitment we gave at the London Ministerial on security in Nigeria on 12 June 2014, to offer direct training and advice to the Nigerian forces engaged in the fight against Boko Haram and other terrorist groups. This is in addition to our ongoing assistance to Nigerian Armed Forces’s efforts to locate the Chibok School girls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram in April;<br><br>Sustaining the training and advisory support we provide to the African Union Mission in Somalia to assist its efforts to combat Al Shabab. We will also continue to assist in the development of a Somali National Army that can protect Somalia’s internal security and borders in the longer-term;<br><br>Continued advice and assistance to the Libyan Armed Forces through the Defence Advisory and Training Team (DATT) in Tripoli; part of the UK’s £62 million Security, Justice and Defence programme. The UK has also committed to train 2,000 of the 10,000 Libyan soldiers for the General Purpose Force in conjunction with those trained by Turkey, Italy and the US. Training of the first tranche began at Bassingbourn in June 2014.<br><br>Delivery of tactical training to the Mali Armed Forces through our contribution to the European Union Training Team (Mali).</p>
