US personnel have operated UK Reaper aircraft a small number of times to aid with the launch and recovery of the aircraft only, not the mission itself. A Memorandum of Understanding has been agreed between the UK and US Air Forces which allows the US to request the use of UK Reaper aircraft to conduct missions and vice versa, though to date this has not occurred. Such use by the US would be subject to UK permissions.
more like this

As the Attorney General pointed out to the Justice Select Committee on 15 September 2015, the Caroline case goes back to the 19th century and was concerned with very different circumstances to those facing us now. However as the Attorney General also made clear, the principles still apply and action in self-defence may be lawful in relation to an attack which has not yet materialised but is imminent. In addition any such action must, like all other action in self-defence, comply with the requirements of necessity and proportionality.
more like this

Together with the previous report, it indicates that there were no Government-to-Government sales of military goods to Iraqi military forces in 2013 or 2014. In addition, there is no record of any sales of military goods from the UK Government to Iraqi military forces in the period from January to the end of June 2015. This period will be covered in the next Annual Report published in 2016.

With regard to military goods exported by UK companies to Iraq, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, is the appropriate UK licensing authority. The Government holds information on export licensing decisions for military goods from the UK to Iraq but it does not hold data on actual sales of defence exports and has no information on whether any such exports to Iraq have been used specifically to combat ISIL or for other defence or security purposes.

I can inform you that 30 Individual Export Licences have been issued for military goods from the UK to Iraq for the period from January 2014 to the end of March 2015. Data on these 30 export licences is publicly available via the Government's Strategic Export Controls: Reports and Statistics website https:// www. exportcontroldb.bis.gov. uk/sdb/fox/sdb/SDBHOME. Data covering the period 1 April to 30 June 2015 is due to be published in October 2015, while data on the export of military goods from the UK to Iraq prior to January 2014 is also available on the same website.

In addition the UK Government is providing extensive support to the GOI in the continuing fight against ISIL, with the gifting of equipment forming a significant part of this. Previously, Her Majesty's Government has gifted 50 tonnes of non-lethal support, 40 heavy machine guns and nearly half a million rounds of ammunition to the Kurdish Peshmerga. The latest equipment to be gifted to the Peshmerga consists of additional medical supplies. The supplies consist of items such as tourniquets, bandage kits and dressings for wounds and fill a significant gap in their resources, leading to the preservation of life and proper treatment of injuries sustained in combat.

star this property answer text
Thirty-eight refugee applications from migrants living in the Sovereign Base Areas before 1 December 2008 had been open but not determined on 8 August 2014. Delays in processing asylum applications were due to the migrants refusing to co-operate with case workers handling their claims. In 2003, an MOU was agreed with the Republic of Cyprus on the handling of illegal migrants in the Sovereign Base Areas. Under the terms of that agreement, all applications for asylum from migrants present in the Sovereign Base Areas at that time were considered by the Republic on behalf of the Sovereign Base Areas Administration by specialist staff of the Republic of Cyprus Asylum Service.

The 38 migrants were informed they were failed asylum seekers following their prolonged unwillingness to engage with Republic of Cyprus asylum case workers. The intent of the Refugees (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 was to regularise the residency status of failed asylum seekers residing in the Sovereign Base Areas, so as to grant them temporary residence until they could be returned to their country of origin or a third country. No persons amongst this group have yet been removed from the Sovereign Base Areas as a consequence of this ordinance. They remain liable for return.
