	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/06/2014 answer text <p>Public Health England (PHE) was advised that the work undertaken at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has been reviewed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health, in keeping with the institute's implementation of the United States Government Policy for Oversight of Life Sciences Dual Use Research of Concern.</p><p> </p><p>As part of this, PHE understand that the research was carried out in secure facilities with high levels of containment. A key finding of the research was that people vaccinated with the current seasonal influenza vaccine (which protects against 2009 H1N1 influenza, a related virus) had some evidence of protection against the novel virus that had been created. In addition, the team showed that the novel transmissible virus is expected to be sensitive to the antiviral medication oseltamivir. Effective counter measures to this novel virus are therefore available.</p><p> </p><p>This research provides information on the mechanisms responsible for adaptation of avian influenza viruses to mammals. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/06/2014 answer text <p>Cannabis is naturally occurring plant and a Class B controlled drug; one of the main active chemicals in cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Cannabis is not a medicinal product and is not licensed as a medicine in the United Kingdom and the Government has no plans to legalise raw cannabis for medicinal purposes, as cannabis has a number of acute and chronic health effects, such the possibility of developing mental health problems or harming the lungs when smoked.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2010 two applications for research funding into medicinal cannabis have been made to National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Programmes. Of these one, within the Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) Programme, has been accepted.</p><p> </p><p>The NIHR also provides support and facilities for research by funding a range of infrastructure facilities. Since 2010 seven projects related to medicinal cannabis have been supported through the NIHR infrastructure; however it is not possible to ascertain the number of applications received as the Department, and our managing agent, does not record this information.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Between April 2010 and March 2014 the Medical Research Council received four applications for funding for research that related to the medicinal cannabis products. No decision has been made to close the Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) service at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England has advised that they have performed impact assessments for all centres which would be impacted by its CHD service change proposals if implemented. We have been informed by NHS England that these initial assessments acknowledged that there would be an impact on paediatric respiratory and cystic fibrosis services at the Royal Brompton, if NHS England’s proposals were implemented.</p><p> </p><p>NHS England has advised that a panel including respiratory clinicians and representatives from respiratory and cystic fibrosis patient and public groups has been created to assess the potential impact of its CHD service change proposals on the Royal Brompton’s paediatric respiratory services. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2014 answer text <p>Reports of suspected adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are collected by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and Commission for Human Medicines (CHM) through the spontaneous reporting scheme, the Yellow Card Scheme.</p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p> </p><p>The Yellow Card Scheme collects information relating to suspected adverse drug reactions, which include both serious and non-serious effects which a doctor or patient suspects may have been due to a medicine. The MHRA has received a total of 1207 suspected ADR reports in association with citalopram between 1 January 2009 and 31 August 2014. This number includes reports received directly from healthcare professionals, patients and indirectly through pharmaceutical companies which have a legal obligation to report suspected ADRs. The number of reports received directly from the NHS cannot be determined.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The inclusion of a particular ADR in a report does not necessarily mean it has been caused by the drug, only that the reporter had a suspicion it may have, or it had a close temporal relationship to the administration of the suspect drug. The Department funds health and care research through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). Any organisation that considers it can carry out high quality clinical, applied research can apply for funding from the NIHR.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has commissioned an independent research team to undertake four systematic reviews to capture and synthesise United Kingdom and international evidence on Lyme disease in the following areas: epidemiology/routes of transmission of Lyme disease; diagnosis; treatment; and prevention.
