star this property answer text <p>We continue to listen to the accommodation needs and concerns of our Service personnel and their families, and recognise their need for increased personal choice and stability and the opportunity for home ownership.</p><p> </p><p>In April 2014, we launched the £200 million Forces Help to Buy Scheme to encourage and support those Service families that aspire to home ownership. Forces Help to Buy is available nationwide, and has already helped almost 1,500 Service personnel get on, or stay on, the property ladder. <br></p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence follows the advice of Public Health England's Advisory Committee for Malaria Prevention in providing appropriately tested and effective methods of chemo-prophylaxis to Service personnel who are deploying to areas of the world where there is a risk of contracting malaria. The exact choice of drug depends on a number of factors, including the region the individual is deploying to, the health of the individual and any past history of side effects.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Service personnel deserve to have a fair and effective complaints system. I announced in March that we had been working for some time with Dr Atkins, the Service Complaints Commissioner, on proposals for a more efficient system.</p><p> </p><p>In her most recent report, Dr Atkins concluded that she was optimistic that a fairer, more effective system has been agreed, and that, once implemented, Service personnel will have access to a redress system that they deserve. The bill introduced in the House of Lords on 5<sup>th</sup> June 2014 will improve the system to make sure that is what they will get.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Since 2002, through five Statutory Instruments, 78 wrecks have been designated under the Protection of Military Remains Act 1986 as either Protected Places or Controlled Sites. The last Statutory Instrument (SI 2012/1110) came into force on 1 June 2012.</p><p>Ministry of Defence officials are considering which ships (from potentially more than 5,000) should be included in the next Statutory Instrument but I cannot yet give a timetable for the conclusion of that work.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>When invited, the Armed Forces visit schools or colleges to support the school curriculum; to improve the awareness of their role and the range of career opportunities across the Armed Forces, including those unique to the Submarine Service such as nuclear engineering, and to pass on valuable skills such as leadership, teamwork and citizenship. In addition, the Royal Navy has established affiliations with four University Technical Colleges specialising in engineering and technical subjects. Under these affiliations, and it is hoped that more will follow, the Royal Navy will provide engineering expertise to assist with student projects and provide key note speakers.</p><p>Information on the Armed Forces in Britain and abroad, including their role, history, current operations and what it is like to work as part of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force, is also available to schools and colleges through the British Armed Forces Learning Resource 2014.</p> more like this

Every effort is made to ensure that access to welfare and pastoral care is available to recruits at all times. The Supervisory Care Directive is currently being reviewed. star this property answer text <p>Operational and Gallantry Medal awards for our Reserve Forces are judged under the same criteria as those for their Regular counterparts. The difference between awards for Reserve and Regular service is in relation to length of service.</p><p>The Volunteer Reserves Service Medal (VRSM) can be awarded to all Volunteer Reserve personnel after 10 years service. The Long Service and Good Conduct medal can be awarded to regular personnel below the rank of officer after 15 years exemplary service.</p> more like this
