This represents 5.5% of this constituency’s population aged 16 and over. This compares with 5.0% of the population in the North East region and 3.8% in Great Britain.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Nuclear Test Medal was designed to recognise the unique contribution of those personnel who served at the locations in Australia and the Pacific where the UK Atmospheric Nuclear Test Programme, including clear-up operations, took place between 1952 and 1967. In particular, the Medal recognises the contribution made by these personnel to the development of the UK's independent deterrent.</p><p> </p><p>The agreed eligibility criteria for the Medal do not currently include UK personnel who were not present in the defined test areas, personnel who monitored nuclear tests conducted by other nations, or personnel who were present at later, non-atmospheric, tests.</p><p> </p><p>We recognise the sacrifices and the huge contribution that Nuclear Test Veterans have made to the UK’s security. The Secretary of State for Defence has directed the Department to look at the commemorative medal criteria, in consultation with other stakeholders.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has supported Ukraine by the granting in kind of both artillery munitions and systems. As a result of lessons from Ukraine, the MOD has significantly increased its order of artillery munitions through the multi-billion pound Next Generation Munitions Solution contract with BAE Systems. Through our Task Force Hirst and the signing of the Framework Arrangement on defence and industrial cooperation we have also created a mechanism for Defence Equipment and Support to place contracts on behalf of Ukraine with UK, and international, manufacturers. The MOD continues to work closely with the Department of Business and Trade to expedite export licencing decisions for Ukraine, and has provided additional resource to the Export Control Joint Unit to support this.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Secretary of State for Defence recognises the important work conducted by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) in maintaining the graves and memorials of fallen sailors, soldiers and aviators from the two world wars, in 23,000 locations across more than 150 countries and territories, and in telling their stories to new generations. Having engaged previously with the CWGC, the Secretary of State now looks forward to meeting the Commissioners, and working with them, in his capacity as Chair of the Commission.</p> more like this
