The carriers are strategic maritime platforms which will perform a wide variety of military functions; for example: providing credible conventional deterrence; delivering carrier strike missions using Lightning II aircraft; enforcing no fly zones; deploying Royal Marine Commandos; building international partnerships; delivering humanitarian aid and disaster relief; and conducting complex non-combatant evacuation operations.</p> more like this

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary has a close relationship with their United States counterparts in Military Sealift Command. Discussions on support shipping interoperability, with the US for a UK Carrier Strike Group and future UK support to a US Carrier Group, are an ongoing subject of investigation and dialogue at the operational planning level.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Yes, there is a significant difference between the terms described.</p><p> </p><p>Carrier Enabled Power Projection (CEPP) consists of three core programme elements; Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, Lightning II aircraft and the CROWSNEST radar system. These combine to exploit the key attributes of maritime manoeuvre and air power to deliver action in all environments. The capability that CEPP provides is primarily Carrier Strike but is also able to support littoral and discrete operations, provide humanitarian assistance and conduct defence diplomacy. The Carrier Strike Group consists of the three core CEPP programmes combined (as appropriate according to tasking) with destroyers, frigates, submarines, additional rotary wing aviation and support vessels.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The current agreed F35-B Lightning procurement profile will see the UK reach 48 aircraft in Quarter four 2025. This delivery schedule has been developed to support the F35-B Lightning force generation build profile and the Carrier Enabled Power Projection (CEPP) milestone requirements. In December 2023, when Full Operational Capability (FOC) Carrier Strike is scheduled to be declared, the UK F35-B Lightning Force will have a total of 37 F35-B Lightning aircraft which will support two front line squadrons and the Operational Conversion Unit. The full complement, of 48 aircraft, will be available when the CEPP FOC milestone is reached in 2026. These figures include the three 17 Squadron UK F35-B Lightning aircraft base at Edwards Air Force Base in California, to conduct Test and Evaluation.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The normal operating cycle of every ship involves them entering different readiness levels depending on their programmes and Departmental planning requirements. Newly commissioned ships also conduct periods of trials alongside in preparation for trials at sea.</p><p>The Royal Navy are currently modernising and digitising the system that holds this information, therefore I will write to the hon. Member with the number of days each aircraft carrier was at sea since being launched in the coming days. The new system will be in place in January.</p> more like this
