star this property answer text <p>The magistracy is an integral part of the judiciary and therefore, as for all judicial office holders appointed since 1995, magistrates are subject to a uniform mandatory retirement age of 70. This has been the policy of successive Lord Chancellor’s since 1995. The government’s response to the recent report of the Lords Constitution Committee indicated that further consideration would be given to the arguments in favour of, and against, a change to the judicial mandatory retirement age. That consideration is ongoing.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p> </p><p> </p><p>Domestic violence is a dreadful form of abuse and is not acceptable within our <br>society. The Coalition Government's approach to tackling domestic violence and <br>abuse is set out in its Violence against Women and Girls Action Plan, updated in March <br>2014.<br><br>In 2013, the Home Secretary commissioned Her Majesty's Inspectorate of <br>Constabulary to undertake a comprehensive review on how the police deal with<br>domestic violence and abuse. HMIC's report exposed significant failings. In response<br>to the Review, the Home Secretary has established a National Oversight Group, which <br>she is chairing, and on which I sit, to ensure HMIC's recommendations are acted upon.<br>The Group met for the first time on 10 June. The Home Secretary has also written to chief constables making it clear that every police force must have an action plan in place by September 2014, to improve their response to domestic violence and abuse.<br><br>The Government is committed to ensuring that the police and other agencies have <br>the tools necessary to tackle domestic violence, to bring offenders to justice <br>and to ensure victims have the support they need to rebuild their lives. On 8 <br>March 2014, the Government announced the national roll-out of Domestic Violence <br>Protection Orders following the successful conclusion of a one-year <br>pilot in three police force areas including Wiltshire, as well as the Domestic <br>Violence Disclosure Scheme following the successful conclusion in <br>September 2013 of a one-year pilot in four police force areas – once again <br>including Wiltshire.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

star this property answer text <p>The Government is committed to ensuring that the police and other frontline agencies have the tools they need to respond effectively to domestic violence and abuse. <br><br>We launched an eight week consultation last August to ask whether the law around domestic abuse needs to be strengthened and subsequently announced we would create a specific offence of domestic abuse which captures coercive and <br>controlling behaviour. <br><br>The offence will be introduced as a Government amendment to the Serious Crime Bill and will impose a maximum five years imprisonment, a fine, or both.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

For example, the Prime Minister recently presented South Atlantic Medals to those personnel who became eligible under the change of criteria recommended by Sir John. In addition, the MOD Medal Office has issued in excess of 13,000 Arctic Stars and over 7,000 Bomber Command Clasps.</p> more like this

The difference between awards for Reserve and Regular service is in relation to length of service.</p><p>The Volunteer Reserves Service Medal (VRSM) can be awarded to all Volunteer Reserve personnel after 10 years service. The Long Service and Good Conduct medal can be awarded to regular personnel below the rank of officer after 15 years exemplary service.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>At the Department for Transport’s most recent ‘Bus Partnership Forum’ on 16<sup>th</sup> July, my Noble Friend, the Minister of State for Transport, Baroness Kramer, encouraged representatives from the bus industry to invest in these systems, where possible.</p><p> </p><p>The cost of installing and maintaining existing audio and/or visual announcement technology on buses can place a financial burden on local bus operators.</p><p>With this in mind, my Noble Friend has launched a new schools technology competition, which will seek innovative and cost-effective solutions on how to provide passengers with accessible information during their journey.</p><p> </p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Since 2011, the Government has abolished the previous government’s fuel duty escalator, cut fuel duty by 1 pence per litre in March 2011 and scrapped four planned increases over the parliament. As a result of this Government’s actions, average pump prices are currently 16 pence per litre lower than they would have been under the previous Government’s fuel duty plans, and will be nearly 20 pence per litre lower by the end of the parliament.</p><p> </p> more like this
