	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/07/2019 answer text <p>The Ministry of Justice published Experimental Statistics in October 2018, which estimated the numbers of former service personnel in the prison population. The department is due to release the next estimate in October 2019.</p><p> </p><p>This new analysis indicated that as at 30 June 2018, 2032 prisoners had declared as ‘ex-service personnel’ when they were first received into custody between January 2015 and June 2018. The Ministry of Justice recognises the importance of the findings of HMIP in relation to CRCs and will work with the provider to ensure that an appropriate plan is in place to address the identified areas for improvement.</p><p> </p><p>We take seriously concerns raised by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation (HMIP) and others over staffing levels. All CRC contracts require the maintenance of a sufficient level of competent and adequately trained staff. We will work with South Yorkshire CRC to ensure that the issues of shortages of qualified probation officers and the assessment and management of risk of harm to others are addressed.</p><p> </p><p>We have been clear that probation services need to improve and are taking decisive action to stabilise and improve the delivery of probation services, We are investing an additional £22m a year to ensure that CRCs deliver an enhanced Through the Gate service to offenders leaving prison. This will include sustained support to find accommodation and employment on discharge.</p><p> </p><p>We have also taken decisive action by ending current CRC contracts early and last year, conducted a consultation on future arrangements. The proposals include measures to ensure the probation workforce is better supported to build their careers and deliver a high-quality service to offenders, such as introducing a standard training framework for staff and a national professional register to recognise the specialism and value of probation work. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/04/2019 answer text <p>The Ministry of Justice responded to the Victims’ Commissioner’s comprehensive review of the provision of Registered Intermediaries, making these commitments: to review governance of the Witness Intermediary Scheme; to consider whether to appoint a National Lead Registered Intermediary; to publish an annual report; and to promote the role of Registered Intermediaries.</p><p>The department have delivered on these commitments and introduced improvements to governance, including the introduction of Regional Coordinator roles for exceptional Registered Intermediaries – which are more appropriate for the scheme than a National Lead. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/11/2018 answer text <p>In 2016/17, there were 206 incidents where Spice was found in South Yorkshire prisons, and in 2017/18, there were 154 incidents. Data for finds of psychoactive substances in the months since March 2018 will be available on GOV.UK in July 2019, as part of the Annual HMPPS Digest. The number of drug finds reflects not only the number of attempts to convey illicit substances into our prisons but also our success in finding these drugs.</p><p> </p><p>Psychoactive substances are a game changer for prison safety, and this statistic reinforces the scale of the challenge. We are addressing this head on, and have invested £7 million in modern technology, including phone blocking technology and improved searching techniques.
