unstar this property answer text <p>Child Benefit can help some claimants qualify for National Insurance credits. These credits count towards their State Pension and protect it by making sure they don’t have gaps in their National Insurance record.</p><p> </p><p>HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) ensures that individuals have the information they need to make well-informed choices about their pension position and Child Benefit. HMRC provides specific information on the Child Benefit claim form, through the HMRC helpline, online at gov.uk, through partners such as Citizen’s Advice, and in the Bounty Packs that go to new parents.</p><p> </p><p>However, some people may choose not to claim Child Benefit. HMRC does not have an estimate of the number of people whose state pension entitlements are affected by their decision not to claim.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The provision of a funeral plan is defined as a regulated activity and falls within the Financial Conduct Authority’s regulatory remit unless specific exemption criteria are met. This arrangement and these exemption criteria are set out in the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Regulated Activities) Order 2001.</p><p>This legislation exempts funeral plan providers from the Financial Conduct Authority’s regulatory remit where the following financial arrangements are conducted, which are designed to ensure that the customer’s payments are secure:</p><p> </p><ol><ol><li><p>the customer’s money is held in a trust fund, where more than half of the trustees are unconnected with the funeral plan provider. This trust must be managed by an authorised fund manager and be overseen by a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries; or</p></li><li><p>the customer’s money is placed in a life insurance policy, issued by an authorised insurer.</p><p> </p><p>HM Treasury sets the legislative framework for the regulation of financial services, including the provision of funeral plans, and continues to keep such exemptions under review to ensure the maintenance of effective prudential and conduct standards.</p></li></ol></ol>

They set the conduct standards required of insurance firms, which aims to ensure consumers are treated fairly and have fair access to affordable insurance products.</p><p> </p><p>If it becomes clear that intervention is necessary, the FCA is able to do so. For example, in April 2017 the FCA took action on the practice of insurers increasing premiums at renewal.</p> more like this

The majority of these checks happen in real time.
