unstar this property answer text <p>There has been no move from 50 metres to 20 metres.</p><p> </p><p>Disability Living Allowance (DLA) does not have and has never had a 50 metre measure for mobilising for the purpose of assessing whether someone is unable or virtually unable to walk.</p><p> </p><p>The 20 metre distance was introduced in Personal Independence Payment (PIP) to distinguish those whose mobility is significantly more limited than others and who face even greater barriers on a day to day basis – those who have the highest need.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The objective of the PIP assessment is to assess the impact that health conditions and impairments can have on an individual’s daily life. The PIP assessment is not a medical assessment requiring the Health Care Professional to diagnose a condition or to recommend treatment options.</p><p> </p><p>All Health Care Professionals complete initial and ongoing training on neurological conditions and multiple sclerosis. They also practise several clinical scenarios involving neurological conditions and multiple sclerosis as part of that training. Health Professionals have access to a range of resources as well as experienced clinicians to support them in assessing claimants with complex conditions. In addition, Assessment Providers frequently engage with medical experts, charities and relevant stakeholders to strengthen, review and update their training programmes.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The number of review letters that were sent out to Personal Independence Payments claimants up to one year in advance between January 2016 and January 2018 is 316,610. Of these, 63,200 were disallowed after the review. The Personal Independence Payment Computer Systems are designed to auto-send out notifications on the review date, not before, which is one year before the expiration of the award. As such we have no record of claimants who received notice letters over one year in advance of their PIP award expiry date.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>The Diffuse Mesothelioma Payments Scheme levy as a proportion of the employers’ liability gross written premium for the years specified is estimated as follows:</p><p> </p><p>2014/15 - <strong>2.2% </strong></p><p>2015/16 - <strong>1.5%</strong></p><p>2016/17 - <strong>2.5%</strong></p><p>2017/18 - <strong>2.1%.</strong></p><p> </p><p>Note:</p><p>The levy year is based on a fiscal year whereas the gross written premium (GWP) is based on the calendar year.</p><p>The proportions quoted above use the most recently available GWP data in any one year. Due to the time taken to collect and verify this data, the GWP figure used to calculate the proportion the levy represents will be two years old.</p> more like this

It also shows the disability prevalence, as well as the equivalent figures for the UK.</p><p> </p><p>Estimates for constituencies are based on small sample sizes and are therefore subject to a margin of uncertainty. Therefore, these estimates should be treated with caution. unstar this property answer text <p>The assessment criteria for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) have been developed to take into account the overall impact of a claimant’s physical or mental health condition or impairment on their functional ability, rather than focusing on a particular diagnosis. The inclusion in the assessment of activities around communicating, engaging with others, and planning and following journeys assists with assessing the impact of conditions affecting mental, intellectual, cognitive and developmental functions.</p><p> </p><p>66% of PIP recipients with mental health conditions get the enhanced rate daily living component, compared with 22% who received the highest DLA care component. And 31% of PIP recipients with mental health conditions get the enhanced rate mobility rate, compared with just 10% of DLA recipients.</p> more like this

The Department’s Independent Audit Team conducts an audit of a statistically significant sample of the Centre for Health and Disability Assessment reports that includes Fibromyalgia cases. The role of Healthcare Professionals conducting assessments is to provide advice on the functional impact of a condition and not to diagnose or advise on treatment.</p> more like this
