There remains an urgent need for all the parties to reach an agreement that addresses the underlying causes of the conflict in Gaza. This should ensure that Hamas and other militant groups permanently end rocket fire and other attacks against Israel and that Israel lifts its restrictions to allow the Gazan economy to grow. We welcome the recent positive steps that Israel has taken to ease some restrictions. The Trinity Biotech Lyme Western Blot technique was widely used in Europe at that time for serum and samples. Controls were run with each batch of the test to verify the tests accuracy and sensitivity. Referring laboratories and clinicians managing patients with Lyme disease were aware of the limitations of diagnostic tests for serum and CSF through publications and educational meetings. It is the role of the requesting clinician to be guided by the interpretation of the laboratory result and to use these results in the light of the clinical presentation to make a diagnosis and a management plan for individual patients. There was no approved ‘on-label’ test for CSF at that time, which is why the use of this test was carefully controlled and its quality assured in each test run. It is the role of the requesting clinician to be guided by the interpretation of the laboratory result and to use these results in the light of the clinical presentation to make a diagnosis and a management plan for individual patients. In addition to the controls for the test, the CSF sample was run with the patient’s serum. UK aid is enabling UNRWA to continue providing basic health services and distribute fuel to ensure emergency water and sewage infrastructure can continue to function. Our support to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is helping medical supplies enter Gaza and providing surgical kits and blood for hospitals, as well as funding the repair of damaged water infrastructure.
