star this property answer text <p>The UK is committed to upholding the Falkland Islanders' right of self-determination. As the Foreign Secretary made clear on his recent visit to the Falkland Islands, as long as the Islanders want to remain part of the UK family, there can be no discussions on sovereignty. The UK looks forward to developing a constructive relationship with Argentina where we can agree to disagree politely on the issue of the Falkland Islands, whilst restarting mutually beneficial co-operation on areas of shared interest.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary met President Milei at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, and spoke to Milei in November 2023. I [Minister Rutley] met Milei at his inauguration. The Foreign Secretary also met with Foreign Minister Mondino at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Brazil in February. Statements from these meetings are available on gov.uk. Future ministerial meetings will be announced in the usual way.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>The UK has made significant progress towards a more constructive relationship with Argentina since the election of President Macri in September 2015. In September 2016, the Minister for Europe and the Americas visited Argentina and agreed a Joint Communiqué that committed both countries to closer co-operation across all aspects of our relationship.</p><p>As a result, co-operation is increasing, including on trade, science and innovation, anti-corruption and security issues. The Scottish Secretary, the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Minister of State for International Trade (Greg Hands) all visited Argentina in 2017, and the Prime Minister last spoke to President Macri on 12 December.</p><p>Our position on the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and the right of the Islanders to determine their own future remains unchanged.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>I spoke to the new Argentine Foreign Minister, Jorge Faurie, on 3 July. During our phonecall I welcomed positive progress in UK-Argentina relations since President Macri's election and underlined the importance the UK attaches to honouring all of the commitments made in the UK-Argentina Joint Communique agreed in September.</p><p>I last met the former Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister, Pedro Villagra Delgado, in London in December to discuss the humanitarian project to identify the remains of fallen Argentine soldiers in Darwin Cemetary in the Falkand Islands.</p> more like this
