	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/10/2015 answer text <p>Ministers and senior officials raised Mr Andree’s case with the Saudi Government repeatedly since he completed his sentence in August 2015.</p><p>I am pleased to be able to say that yesterday morning the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, my righ hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) was informed that the public prosecutor is now in the final stages of completing the necessary processes that will lead to Mr Andree’s release and return to the UK. We have raised this case with the Saudi Arabian authorities at a senior level including by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond). We will continue to follow this case closely. The UK opposes the death penalty in all cases. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/07/2015 answer text <p>The UK is committed to supporting President Ghani’s efforts to eliminate corruption, promote human rights and improve the justice system as set out in his ambitious reform agenda at the London Conference on Afghanistan.</p><p>There has been significant progress, particularly on women’s rights, since 2001, but the gains made are fragile and the country still faces huge challenges. The UK provides support and funding for the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission to help it protect human rights, investigate and catalogue violence and support those seeking justice. We play an active role, along with EU Member States, on protecting human rights defenders as part of the EU Local Strategy. In addition, the Department for International Development (DFID) also funds a number of humanitarian programmes that help to promote human rights.</p><p>Through DFID’s Afghan Reconstruction Trust Fund we run a public financial management reform project to strengthen procurement, audit and reporting controls to improve transparency and accountability. The fund is also used to increase access to legal services through a justice services delivery project. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2015 answer text <p>Following the adoption of UN Security Council resolution 2118, and on becoming a State Party to the Chemical Weapons Convention, Syria produced a declaration of its chemical weapons programme. Those chemical weapons declared by Syria have been removed from Syria for secure destruction. As part of this international effort, in May 2015 the UK completed the destruction of 200 tonnes of precursor chemicals from Syria. However, industrial chemicals such as chlorine are still being used as weapons in Syria, in breach of the Chemical Weapons Convention and UN Security Council resolutions, including resolution 2118. We strongly condemn such breaches. The UK, along with international partners, remains committed to ensuring that those responsible are held to account. UN Security Council Resolution 2235, adopted in August 2015, creates an international mechanism tasked with identifying the people responsible for these appalling acts. The Syrian regime also has serious questions to answer in respect of its weapon programmes declaration, and cannot be considered to be in full compliance with its Chemical Weapons Convention and UN Security Council obligations before it has done so satisfactorily. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/07/2015 answer text Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) staff in the UK do not use a car with dedicated driver. FCO Services has a small pool of vehicles and security cleared drivers which are used mainly for transporting Queen's Messengers, diplomatic bags and other classified material. As part of a long-standing arrangement, the Permanent Under-Secretary and other senior officials are able to draw on this pool for official and operationally necessary travel. The FCO does make use of a taxi service provider which FCO staff are entitled to use according to strict policy rules governing the use of taxis for official journeys. FCO policy states that ‘for duty travel staff should use the most efficient means of transport; the use of taxis for official business should be avoided unless it is absolutely necessary, usually when there is no other means of public transport to the destination, or there is a need to transport bulky official materials (not personal luggage) to or from a course, seminar or meeting. FCO Staff are entitled to use a taxi when it is considered the most efficient means of transport. Special Advisers are not entitled to us ethe FCO Services provided small car pool or the departmental taxi provision. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/10/2015 answer text <p>The British Government strongly supports the right to freedom of religion or belief.</p><p>The public practice in Saudi Arabia of any form of religion other than Islam is illegal, however, the Saudi authorities do accept foreign workers privately practising religions other than Islam. These restrictions on freedom of religion or belief reflect widely held conservative social values in Saudi society.</p><p>Our position on human rights in Saudi Arabia is a matter of public record. We have regularly made our views known, including through the UN Universal Periodic Review process and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s annual Human Rights and Democracy Report, in which Saudi Arabia continues to be a designated priority country.
