At the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak we assessed that they would potentially need additional mental health and occupational health support.</p><p>We commissioned NHS England and NHS Improvement to develop a comprehensive package of emotional, psychological and practical support for NHS staff - building on the support already in place in local NHS organisations. The support package was launched by NHS England and NHS Improvement on 8 April.</p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement have also launched a new framework, which will enable employers to buy-in additional occupational health support for their staff. We commissioned NHS England to develop a comprehensive emotional, psychological and practical support package for all NHS staff in addition to existing support that is already available.</p><p>NHS England and NHS Improvement launched the support package on 8 April 2020 and it includes a helpline and text service for counselling and support, a dedicated bereavement helpline, and a range of well-being apps. We have committed to deliver 50,000 more nurses in the National Health Service This will help support the 1.4 million people who make up the NHS workforce and address the longstanding NHS nursing shortages that were identified in the Interim NHS People Plan. Therefore, improving psychological wellbeing has been a key focus of the NHS People Plan. An interim version of the NHS People Plan was published on 3 June, setting out the vision for how this will be achieved by creating a new offer for all NHS staff, developed through widespread engagement with our people and staff representatives.</p><p>Publication of the final NHS People Plan has been deferred to allow the NHS to provide maximum operational effort to COVID-19 response. However, we have commissioned NHS England to develop a comprehensive emotional, psychological and practical support package for NHS staff during and following the COVID-19 response.
