Since then we have seen a significant shift in women’s participation in, and experiences of, the workplace.</p><p>The Council has successfully influenced government policy on shared parental leave, flexible working and the provision of childcare. Members have raised the profile of issues with business leaders and developed specific programmes and toolkits for the business community.</p><p>I would like to pay tribute to the current Chair, Dame Cilla Snowball as she steps down from office next month, for overseeing the success of the Council’s programme.</p><p>We will be announcing the new Chair of the Women’s Business Council and its future business programme shortly.</p> more like this

Successful organisations funded under the first round began their programmes early this year.</p><p>These programmes provide extensive support to returners, supporting them to develop skills, build confidence, and complete accredited qualifications and training before they return to the labour market. Employment opportunities for returners taking part in the first round of projects will be sourced later this year.</p> more like this

This will include ethnicity, disability, age, education and length of unemployment. star this property answer text <p>Air Commodore Clarke was a great friend and ambassador of the Royal Air Force and a truly remarkable man.</p><p> </p><p>Air Commodore Clarke was a member of a World War Two Lancaster aircrew, and one of the last surviving prisoners of the Stalag Luft III Prisoner of War camp in Poland at the time of the great escape.</p><p> </p><p>Following a distinguished career in the RAF, he worked tirelessly as Chairman of the Bomber Command Association, not to mention his support for the RAF Association, RAF Benevolent Fund and the Air Cadets. His courage in the face of adversity is an inspiration to us all, and I know he will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>DFID works to improve maternal health through our focus on effective family planning, training health workers to manage obstetric emergencies and improving countries’ health systems. The Woman trial, carried out by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has shown that the drug tranexamic acid reduces bleeding and death from post-partum haemorrhage. We have disseminated these findings to our staff in countries. We are in discussion with some of our UN and NGO partners to identify the barriers to people accessing tranexamic acid.</p> more like this

star this property answer text <p>Every year, the UK spends approximately £1 billion on reproductive, maternal, new-born and child health care.</p><p>The majority of maternal deaths are caused by complications during and following pregnancy and childbirth, such as severe bleeding, infections, complications from delivery and unsafe abortion. DFID works to reduce maternal mortality through a range of programmes, which focus on effective family planning, training health workers to manage obstetric emergencies and improving countries’ health systems to ensure health workers, drugs, equipment and transport are available when women and children need care.</p> more like this
