star this property answer text
Government established Think, Act, Report in 2011 to provide a simple, step by step framework for companies to build gender equality into their business planning, particularly in relation to recruitment, retention, promotion and pay. Now over 280 businesses, collectively employing well over 2.5 million employees are signed up, providing a powerful community of best practice who are leading the way on gender equality in the workplace. To further champion gender equality in the workplace, Government set up the Women’s Business Council in 2012, which is delivering a wide range of programmes to tackle discrimination and drive culture change through industry-led solutions to support the advancement of women. Staff representatives play a vital role in supporting their colleagues to address unacceptable attitudes and practices. Acas (the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service) has published guidance for employers on ‘Trade Union Representation in the Workplace’ which is available online at:

http://www.acas.org.uk/media/pdf/4/8/Trade-Union-Representation-in-the-Workplace-accessible-version.pdf

star this property answer text
The Youth Justice Board takes account of any existing mental health diagnosis in deciding where to place young people sentenced or remanded to custody. The evidence-based Comprehensive Health Assessment Tool (CHAT) is then used by NHS England to screen all young people for health needs, including mental health, on arrival into custody. star this property question text To ask Her Majesty’s Government, in the light of the Conservative Party manifesto pledges to introduce legislation to pardon those men, now deceased, who were historically convicted of gross indecency even though they would be innocent of any crime today, whether they intend such legislation to extend a pardon to those men similarly convicted but still living who may apply for a "disregard" under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, and if not, why not; and whether they accept that there is a difference between a "pardon" and a "disregard", and if so, what it is. more like this

star this property answer text

The Government was elected with a manifesto commitment to introduce a new law to pardon those who suffered from convictions similar to Alan Turing’s, and who cannot correct the injustice themselves through the “disregard” process. Details of the policy have not yet been formulated and Ministers will be discussing their plans and making announcements in due course

There is a clear difference between a pardon and a disregard. A pardon is legally neutral in effect and does not affect any conviction, caution or sentence, though it may remove the ”pains and penalties” which resulted from these. The effect of a disregard is that all successful applicants will be treated “for all purposes in law” as though the conviction had never occurred and need not disclose it for any purpose. Official records relating to the conviction held by prescribed organisations will be deleted or, where appropriate, annotated to this effect as soon as possible after the grant of a disregard.
