	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/10/2016 answer text <p>The Government has committed £50 million from LIBOR fines to increase the number of cadet units in UK state schools through the Cadet Expansion Programme. The joint Ministry of Defence/Department for Education programme is targeting schools in less affluent areas and we have had a substantial number of applications to establish new units. This demonstrates the interest that schools around the country have in the programme.</p><p> </p><p>The expansion programme is well on track to achieve its target of 500 cadet units parading in schools across the UK by 2020. This manifesto commitment will establish around 150 new units in state schools across the UK. The programme is targeting schools in less affluent areas to ensure that more young people can experience the life-enhancing activities that cadet service brings.</p><p>The cadet forces are inclusive organisations which help young people achieve their full potential. We are committed to equality of opportunity for young people from all backgrounds, regarding diversity within our membership as one of our greatest strengths.</p><p>As part of our plan to build a country that works for everyone we have made it a priority to focus the CEP on areas of high deprivation where the potential benefit is greatest. Specific examples are detailed below:</p><p> </p><ul><li>Schools usually employ a School Staff Instructor (SSI) to help manage and administer the cadet unit. SSIs can claim 51 days of Volunteer Allowance per year from the MOD, with the school paying for any additional days they need.</li><li>The MOD also provides a ‘Consolidated Grant’ to each Combined Cadet Force (CCF) contingent. The amount varies, but for 2016-17 the allocation was £513 per CCF, plus £20 per cadet.</li></ul><p> </p><p>Please note that while such items and support are provided by the MOD the funding is not provided directly from the MOD to schools. In the examples highlighted above the funding is paid directly to the individual or the CCF.</p><p> </p><p>The only funding which goes direct to schools is through the Cadet Bursary Fund (CBF). The CBF is available to state schools which have opened cadet units under the joint MOD/Department for Education (DfE) Cadet Expansion Programme (CEP). The CBF was set up by the DfE and is managed by a registered charity, the Combined Cadet Force Association.
